I have nerve damage pain in my left foot since my last surgery. The doctor gave me a cortisone shot last Friday and in three weeks, we'll reevaluate it.
As far as the shingles are concerned 500 mg of Lysine a day keeps them under control. 1500 mg when you are having an attack. I was on a preventive dose of Valtrex, but it's too expensive. You can get the lysine at a natural food store or WalMart.
Interesting about the Lyrica. I was considering talking to my doctor about it for my fibromyalgia.

I wish I had an answer for you. My youngest DD suffers terribly with nerve pain. She is also taking neurontin with only minimal relief. Magnesium helps some people, but too much will give you diarrhea. I will watch for an answer too! :?

I'd like to suggest that you ask your doctor about METANX and cymbalta.

Metanx has helped someone very dear to me tremendously. It is a vitamin combination. Cymbalta is also said to help with neuropathy and has also helped my friend.
This METANX is something else! A lot of docs are not even aware of it so take some info in with you.

Cymbalta is a bad idea for diabetics as it is known to cause high blood sugar! Lidoderm patches are great but not sure you can use them on your feet very practically. Lyrica may help - I know they use it for patients that have
neuropathy after back surgery, but not sure if it works as well for diabetic neuropathy. Hope you find a good solution for your problem.

Darn they wouldn't have a patch big enough for me I hurt from head to foot most days it's just the degree of pain that varies.
I can't remember the medication they wanted me to take but it was supposed to retrain the nerves so they didn't feel pain but I had a reaction to it so can't take it
