Hope your move goes well. I am still working on mine and I started in March! And, my youngest son lives in Winston-Salem. He loves it.

Welcome to North Carolina....there's a charming old coaching inn-turned-restaurant in Old Salem...and perhaps best of all, you'll be within striking distance of Mary Jo's fabric store in Gastonia (probably two and half hours or so from W-S)---it's Mecca for quilters---a billion or so bolts of fabric, notions, tools, and everything at great prices...don't miss it...

I'm in Beech Mountain, and the local quilt guild travels two hours to descend on Mary Jo's and would happily travel further, I'm sure....

Welcome to NC. I have lived here all my life. I now live about 1 hour from Winston Salem. NC does have some pretty mountains and Beach areas. Good luck with everything.

Thanks for all the notes. I am very familiar with NC - we have family and friends across the state, as well as in Richmond and northeast of Atlanta in SC, just no one right in Winston-Salem.

So we know we love the area and the weather, and I already love Mary Jo's and will be visiting often!

I will be PMing some of you about quilt shops that you mentioned and perhaps to meet up once I get settled in the area. :)
