to be kind to the animal, I would take her to the vet to check her out and get her sedated so that she can be shaved down and the mats eliminated. The matter hair is terrible and pinches at their skin. the cat would probably feel much better without the matted coat. I hope you are able to give her a loving, forever home.

My vet told me that he puts stitches in cats pretty often where people have taken scissors to the mats and the cat objected....I agree with the folks who said to get him shaved under sedation at the vet and start over so he can groom himself. And if she needs spaying (hint, hint, hint) they can do it while she's there and only knock her out once.

She's already been fixed and I will get her tested for feline leukemia, shots, etc.....I had a cat, Patches, for 19 yrs, she died 2 yrs ago of old age and I swore I would never have another cat but this little girl has adopted me, :) Patches was a short hair so we never had a grooming problem. Thx again for all the advice--

I have wondered what to do about the matted hair. Now to find a groomer! Great to know there are so many cat lovers.
