Default New sheets

I need recommendations for new sheets.

I had some "percale" sheets years ago that washed and wore beautifully. They were very cool to the touch. The only reason I had to stop using them is because the new mattresses are so thick and the fitted sheet no longer fit.

Lately I've been using Target sheets but they don't wear well. The fitted bottom sheets have great corners though.

Any suggestions for cool feeling sheets that wear and fit well?

I think those old favorite sheets were from Sears.

We got some new sheets for our Cal. King bed from Boll & Branch. Sheets are fabulous!

I have been getting the sheets that are not all cotton. Cotton sheets breath well but stick to my nightie or pj's and I have trouble rolling over. The silky sheets let me slide and I turn over a lot with my arthritus.

[QUOTE=DJ;8038717]I need recommendations for new sheets

I love Lands end sheets, I have both percale, sateen and even flannel for winter. They fit the thicker mattresses and last forever. They are pricey but I think my percales are about 10 years old

They are also guaranteed forever, if you have a problem they will solve it for you, great customer service.

DH and I have been very happy with these microfiber sheets from Amazon. They fit well, wash well, and are priced well, too! They don't feel as cool to the touch as cotton, but we love them.

Good luck finding the quality percale you bought years ago. The China syndrome has affected our sheets and they are for the most part, thin, rough, and flimsy. I had found Chris Madden sheets at JCPenney a couple of years ago and they were fabulous...of course, discontinued never to be seen again. The Costco sheets are thin, have ripped and aren't soft.
The best I've found are by a company called Brooklinen and the set I bought required that I use it and wash it about 8 times before it softened up enough to compare to the Chris Madden's. I buy only 100% cotton and thread count is deceptive. Higher thread count doesn't necessarily mean better sheets...some of those high counts are rough! I also don't believe in taking out a second mortgage for a sheet set (king) so I shop at around the $100 mark for a set...I may just not be able to afford what I'm looking for but I won't know because I'm not in the $200 and up group. Would love to hear other's thoughts on this!

leighway, you are so right. Last year I went round and round trying to find good cotton sheets. I returned a couple of sets because they wrinkled something awful -they were like someone balled them up and crushed them for months. I won't iron my sheets. Finally got some Martha Stewart at Kmart that are passable. Wrinkle more than my old sheets but I will live with them.
Sheets are thinner than they used to be and I think that's why they wrinkle more. I've been able in the past to get inexpensive sheet sets that were nice but the fitted sheet shrank so you couldn't use anymore. The last time I got flannel sheets I went with expensive($129) sheets from LL Bean thinking they would be like the last set I got from them a number of years ago. Well, they are nice and soft and and warm and I'm assuming they won't shrink a lot but I can fee that they are a bit thinner than my old flannel sheets.
I have noticed this trend in clothes also. Thinner threads to make an item means they spend less money making their products.

Years ago I put some money into sheets from Bed Bath & Beyond and they were very nice, but I changed mattress size and couldn't use them anymore. For the past few years I've gotten sheets at Walmart on sale and I'm very happy with them.

We bought a 4" memory foam mattress topper and put the mattress pad and sheets over just that. This works with either the old ones or the newer ones for deeper mattresses because the elastic pulls them around the edges. They tend to be a little loose, but that doesn't bother me nearly as much as trying to make sheets wrap around the tall mattress. I like the memory foam, but not everyone does. I bought it on Overstock.com, but it's been a few years, so the brands and styles may have changed. There are some that are called "cool foam", whatever that may entail, and that's probably what we'd buy if we were ready for a new one. I'm very happy with some sheets we bought recently at Sam's Club, but I miss the days of all cotton.

We could buy wide quilt back fabric and make our own sheets, but I'd rather be quilting. It's at the back of my mind because you could make a complete set to coordinate with a quilt. Pillowcases are easy, and sheets probably wouldn't be that much more difficult, but I haven't tried it. I wonder whether the top sheet could be created just like the hot dog pillowcase method where you pull the entire thing through the cuff.

What you knew aS cotton percale is now called Egyptian cotton. Cost way more than those crappy “microfiber” polyester things that slide off the bed, but worth every dime if they last ten years or more which mine have. They will not “wear” like polyester, but they will not “roast” you at night either. IMHO.
