My feet are very difficult to fit - plus orthotics. I had a lot of trouble until I found a NZ company that sells shoes for approximately $250 per pair - no breaking them in, they were wonderful. Then, for financial reasons I suppose, they changed the last and now the only ones that will fit are a German brand which are usually $400 per pair! (I wait until they are on sale). It is an expensive price to pay for mobility.I would never put them in boiling water and part of the process is that they have a water protection treatment already applied- it would be like negating the purpose.

Great Idea! And it makes sense. I am buying SAS shoes for my trip, they don't require a breaking in period, but everything else I buy usually does.

Thanks, I had 2 pair of shoes handmade while on a trip to Cyprus several years ago. They were tight and the lady told me to wear them and they would mold to my feet. Yeah, right...

I still have them and have nothing to lose if I try this.

The OP said they needed to be all leather ... Beware!! Not all "leather" shoes are "all" leather.

If it works, great ... though I'd hate to ruin a pair.
Better to start with them fitting when you leave the store!

I have the worse feet to find shoes to fit. Add to that, the joy of wearing orthotics. I've learned my lesson on fitting ... and now am overly cautious when buying.

I used to love shoes and shoe shopping and now I dread it! :(

back in the very old days that was the only way they used to break in new shoes. soak them in water and wore them until dry sort of the same way they broke in new jeans or overhauls. Then they lasted seemed like forever and you never wanted to buy new ones.

The shoes my friend dunked into boiling water are now two years old, and no signs of coming apart anywhere, they are the most comfortable shoes I own and as you can see from the wear lines on them, I wear them most days during the cooler weather.

If you are too afriad to try the boiling water, soak a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol, soak the places that hurt on the inside of the shoe, wear until they dry, which doesn't take as long as with water. They will now be molded to your foot.
