Reggie did a little howling last night with his toy in his month. He just wanted to play. My DD's cat used to howl at night. They would have to get up and pet her so they could go back to sleep. Every night before they'd go to bed they would say to each other "Don't wake Sugar."

OMG, my 2 cats heard the yowling and went on a search, too.

I had a cat live to almost 18years of age. I think he was deaf for a while and then I think he started losing his eyesight. He quit drinking out of his bowl of water until I gave him one that was large and square.

He sometimes walked around yelping until I went and stood by him. I think maybe he just couldn't hear or see anything and he was panicking.

I have a two year old cat that just discovered how to fetch. I don't know how this started but now he brings the ball and hollers just like that if I don't throw the ball, again, and again, and again . . . I have taken to throwing the ball downstairs each time to tire him out. :roll: Eventually he will fetch the ball, but lay down with it for a nap. The other two cats just watch us. Then a few hours later it starts again. He just loves to chase that ball and bring it back. He even waits for me to lower my hand so he can drop it right in. Then if I don't immediately through it the hollering starts again. They are just so funny. They will not be ignored. :lol:

My female, Emmy, fetches. Her brother, Reggie, does not. When I throw something and Reggie chases, it Emmy so mad you can hear her huffing. I swear they are just like watching my kids when they were growing up.

cats do get dementia. almost all of them lose their hearing when they get old. they get lost in the same house they've lived in all their lives. they cry because they don't understand who moved the walls around. it's very scary for them. have you tried leaving on a nightlight or two? if she's only doing this during the night, your vet may be able to give you something to help her sleep through the night. when it's light out she can see where is.

once our cat became totally deaf, she started doing this at night all night long. when we brought her to the vet about it, the vet said it was also because she was slightly demented. since she was always demented, we never even noticed. after that, she was never happy unless one of us was in the room with her. as soon as we were out of sight, she cried like a baby. we couldn't travel for 2 years.

Elisabrat, how do the other cats in your rescue react to this one and the howling during the night?

The other cats ignore him. Actually the littlest ones always adore him and try to sleep with him and he usually allows one to be his pal. he is the king around here and they all walk around behind him. Right now its not kitten season so knock on wood there will not be any kittens for another two months but i hear there are some pregos out there now.. so maybe much sooner than we hoped. There are always about 6 weeks of peace, no kittens then a tiny trickle then a landslide of them. I cut off at a dozen too many to keep up with but surely could have 100 if I had the time, money and energy. And still not make a dent. Boris and my older cats thank me for realizing 100 is too many. They think 2 more are too many.
