Default pillows

When making covers for a pillow form, say an 18", do you cut the front and back panels at 18" to maintain plumpness (?), or at 17 1/2" (?) or 17" (?) I, also back each panel piece with the same size piece of Warm and Natural to give a smooth appearance. It's been so long since I covered any pillow forms I can't remember what I did before.

Thanks!

I cut the tops 18 1/2 for an 18 inch pillow form, allowing for seams. I find decorate pillow inserts are different in density depending where I buy them. Also find them to be pricey for the quality you get. Shop thrift/resale stores for old pillows and remove old cover.

Sometime yes and sometimes no.

I cut the corners so they are not actual squares. It prevents dog ears in the corners. Here is the method. Try it for your next project. You can also add some loose stuffing into the corners to fill them.

There is also a template that works well for pillow patterns.

Enjoy!

This question will received many different comments. I made pillows for a charitable craft sale very recently. I always cut my back and front one inch smaller than the stated pillow form so they will be fully filled when the pillow is inserted. With some styles of pillow and some brands I have even had to stuff fiber fill in the corners to make them fully full. I also like to use a layer of batting with the fabric and I quilt it grid style or with a design. I usually finish the edge with cording.
