postage

I had the flat rate boxes for up to 70 lbs and shipped 6 jars of home canned tuna and it was supposed to go for $10.65. My husband took it to a private service that is supposed to charge the same as the post office and they charged him $18.65.

I know what you feel like. I was in as swap not long ago and had used really small envelopes to sent out finished blocks, it cost me $1.74 per envelope, I was only mailing 6 at the time-35 would be mailed out in total. When I questioned the price the postal clerk said they had to charge differently since they could tell it was more than just a letter inside. I went ahead and sent those that day. A couple of days later I received a block from another swapper with postage due for the $1.74 rate-this seemed odd since most of the other blocks came back to me at $.44-$.64. So when sending out the nextt bunch I used larger envelopes 5x9 manilla ones and they all went for either 44 or 64 cents each. So I began using large envelopes and have watched my seams better-it has to freely slide through their slot card to go as a large envelope.

We just went to USPS on line to check postage rates. We put $.88 as it was under 1 oz. It just came back and I had to add $1.25, they didn't even try to send it postage due, I'm surprised they even offered it to you.
So why is the website not up dated?

I do know if that 5x7 envelope has one of those brass clasp on the back to close it, it costs more to send it since they can't run it through the automatic sorter. That could be part of the extra cost if it has that. Everyone needs to keep that in mind when mailing things. If you need to cut that out and tape over it. That's what I have done in the past. Hope you get it sorted out. And soon. Keep smiling and enjoy the pattern despite the problems with the cost.

Ok, I am back from the post office, went through 3 people,
last one the head mail guy. It will not go through the
slot thing they have, and it has a metal clip on back, plus it is 6x9. It is the sender's fault.
She should have used one of their envelopes it would have
cost 3 dollars something. Sender error.
Will call pay pal as they requested and see where that goes.
I paid 9.11 for a 3.00 package bad business. I am sure it
hard if you have done it and think you can, but it doesn't
work all the time. The mail guy said you may get by if someone doesn't do their job and use the slot, but it will catch up with you.
