One of my friends has a son in Texas without power and three little kids. There was a suggestion that I thought worth repeating. If you have a tent, set it up in the living room and move in with all the quilts etc. Make one big bed and keep each other warm. The tent will hold some heat in. The kind that has a rigid frame.

I'm here in South Texas. Boil your water? With no electricity? A broken water main has reduced flow to a trickle, and service has been cut to some areas in an attempt, for the second day, to find the break!! The Coastal Bend is not set up for freezing weather. We have electricity, but many do not; we only lost power for a few hours. Grocery store shelves are not bare, they are empty!! Panic purchasing.
1,800+ cold stunned sea turtles have washed to shore here in Corpus-approx. half were still alive

Thankfully, temperatures will return to the 60s next week

I am so sorry to hear about the sea turtles. This weather is really hurting the animals. The Dallas Zoo lost some animals, ranchers are losing calves that are being born. Ranchers are having problems cutting ice for the cattle to drink. Maybe God is telling all of us we have had it too good. It really makes a person appreciate electricity, water and great neighbors. I live in the DFW area and we are having to boil water, but we are so blessed as I stocked up on food and water before all this happened. I am hoping that this may slow the virus down as everyone is having to stay home at least. Have to look at the good side of things. .

OMG...I've been worried about all of you. Please stay safe and warm. It's a good time to do a lot of hugging and snuggling.

That's a really good idea. May I add a couple more tips to that? If you are able to boil snow, put the hot water into big, milk jugs and keep those in the tent until they cool. Cover the tents with quilts for added insulation. Just some ideas.

Here in Iowa and the midwest, we received even colder temps, down in the -20 to -30's and we have wind turbines also but they didn't have issues with freezing so wondering why the turbines in TX did? I pray for those in TX right now as I know what it feels like to be cold all the time. My neighbors spend winters in TX. Just texted them to see if they are okay but haven't heard from them yet. I know my nephews down in Waco have had problems.

Even though I live in the north we have learned once the temps start to drop we always fill the bath tub with water so we have something in the event that conditions get the way they are right now. My heart is going out to all of you that have to deal with this horrible weather that you have never had to deal with. Please stay safe.

This is so mind boggling and unimaginable that you all have to go through this. I hope that you all have plenty of quilts to help you cuddle and keep warm. Hopefully the power will be back on SOON! My thoughts are with all of you.

Praying for everyone in TX and anywhere else the weather has been brutal. We were hit with a snowstorm recently but we're used to it. I can't even imagine having to deal with this in a state where it's not a normal occurrence.

If the Energy companies that plan to provide for energy winterize their equipment - be it renewable or fossil fuel - , it won't be a problem. Sweden has already sent word that if the fan blades have a thin coating of carbon fibers, they can warm the blades sufficiently to prevent them from icing up. They use wind turbines successfully at the Arctic Circle so with a little planning, this does not have to happen to Texans again. Your energy company didn't winterize any of the equipment. Sad that everyone has to suffer because of their desire to make money and not provide a stable product to its customers. Global warming has been coming for a while. Ignoring that it allows for arctic blasts like this one is not fair to everyone who rely on businesses to be mindful.

I hope everyone has quilts to keep them warm until it gets warmer outside.
