Hard to describe, it was fascinating and charming and quite a bit of math thrown in (sort of like quilting). I am a gamer and love to play all sorts of games, video, board, card, puzzle, etc. I was concerned how it would be as audio but I did just fine keeping on thought train and being able to understand the math bits.

pretty funny add on :) Since I've read the Accidental Alchemist series, and Gargoyle Guardian Chronicles I've been wanting a gargoyle friend.

I'm not sure if I fully understand the status of the Longmire books. I was understanding the series is over, but there is a new book -- not chronological, that tells some of the history of Longmire and Standing Bear. It is short, more in the tradition of the Christmas stories (and is set at this time), and I enjoyed it quite a bit :)

As I've mentioned, I try out many books over a year and sometimes have them on hold for quite awhile before they get to me. My latest "surprise" hold turned out to be fascinating. Very different than my usual choices, first off and primarily, I don't do much war stuff. The Illusionist is a non-fiction book that reads like a story about "military deception" in the 2nd WW. It is not comedy nor is it horribly brutal. It was fun to listen to and I liked the "after the story" updates on the major characters.

I need to save this thread. Lots of interesting suggestions. I mostly listen to books now through hoopla and Libby apps. Also Audible. Occasionally read. My latest favorite is Lost Man’s Lane by Scott Carson. Read by Corey Hill. His voice is wonderful.

I just finished listening to "Germ" by Robert Liparulo. It is an excellent book! Fast paced, exciting, kept me listening, not wanting it to end....Borrowed it from hoopla. Many thanks to all of you for introducing me to the idea of borrowing from hoopla. I'd never heard of it until y'all mentioned it.

I loved "The Storied Life of AJ Fikry" when it came out, so I was curious to see the recent movie on Netflix. It's great - highly recommend it!

Time to bump up this thread for my own selfish reasons -- I am running out of options and will have to go through this thread again anyway to see what wonderful choices I've missed.

Of my recent books, I did rather enjoy Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer. There is a second book, Apprentice to the Villain which I have on hold. Is sort of a Princess Bride tale with a Villain instead of a Dread Pirate Roberts. And Evie is a bit more active? than Buttercup.

I am now finished/current with the Chet and Bernie books by Spencer Quinn. We found out at my MiLs funeral that my husband's (male) cousin is also a huge fan of Chet the Jet. I am also the same status with the Longmire books by Craig Johnson. I have the last of the Martha Wells Murderbot books on hold. I am working my way though the Alex Delaware books by Jonathan Kellerman.

Nice thing with my vision improved I have other things to do and less reliance on Audio books, but I still will be going through at least 2 a week between insomnia and sewing times.

thumbs up on the vision improvement. Mine got so bad over the last year, so quickly ... turns out it wasn't the MacTel2 on high speed but only a film behind the cataract surgery stuff, which was reversed in about 5 minutes at the Ophthalmologists office. Like a real miracle, I reversed 3 years. Even 2 months later I can't stop smiling about my good fortune. I guess about 30% of cataract surgeries need this quick fix later.

Anyway, my recent series fun is Moggies In Space (Raconteur Press Anthologies Book 10) which I'm using between book in the series I'm reading
involving Found Family, witches magic trolls angels... :) .99 for the first 10 kindle books so I took a chance and read it straight through, nearly 2k pages. Liked it well enough I got the 2 series, also .99 cents. cosy mystery, no swearing or sex, although alluded to occassionally...like 'he's hot, etc.

I'm slowly collecting the Maisie Dobbs series byJacqueline Winspear as they come up on sale on kindle, I think I have about 10 of them to look forward to, having only read the first.

I have quite a few Anthologies saved, mostly mystery based but some horror if anyone is interested.
They are good palate cleansers, and ways to find new authors, my only complaint is many have a lot of fill about each author, or how the anthology was pulled together, so in a 500 page book, which is normal for the genre you loose about 100 pages.
