Fellow quilters... beware!! I still can't believe what happened to me today. I finally saved up the cash to get the material to do my sisters quilt. Went in town to a small strip mall for fabrics. Had a great time "feeling" the fabric's and finally found exactly what I needed. She is a horse lover but can't do like she use to. Any way, I was putting the first bag in the car which had thread etc in it... turned around and a young woman was running off with my bag of fabric!!!!!!!!!!!! Stunned!!! shock!! She just disappeared when I looked for my phone to call the police.... no one in site.. anywhere? I usually do my shopping online because I have a bum knee, it is such a nice day here today I decided to get some fresh air and headed into town. I know to be aware of my surroundings but this takes the cake. Be very careful out there, you never know who is watching you.

dakotamaid 02-25-2011 01:14 PM

Be sure and check surrounding dumpsters, when she discovers it is not what she thought she may throw it away. Been there, done that.

RatherB Quilting 02-25-2011 01:14 PM

I am sorry that happened to you! I can't believe that people think that theft is ok! <<hugz>> to you!

stpatmom 02-25-2011 01:15 PM

Unbelievable! I hope you're okay though. I can't believe what some people would do. I'm sorry to hear about this happening.

Lv2sew2011 02-25-2011 01:16 PM

Freaking people too damn lazy to make there own money, so they have to take from others...(grrrr)

Claddaughquilting 02-25-2011 01:16 PM

How awful! Poor you! I would be terribly upset too.

cjomomma 02-25-2011 01:18 PM

That's just aweful. I'm terribly sorry this happened to you. I just don't understand why ppl do things like this. Thankfully that's all she did.

sunkistmi 02-25-2011 01:18 PM

Oh my goodness. What has this world come to.

Patty Patches 02-25-2011 01:19 PM

dungeonquilts 02-25-2011 01:32 PM

texas granny 02-25-2011 01:32 PM

So sorry to hear of the fabric loss. I hope you can find it. Watch the internet and paper she might try and sell it on craig list

pocoellie 02-25-2011 01:36 PM

I'm so sorry this happened to you. You don't expect something like that to happen by a quilt shop/fabric store? Did you call the police? Dakotamaid has a good suggestion though.

Country1 02-25-2011 01:38 PM

Wow, that's a new one on me, but then I've worked retail in the past and people will steal anything! It's so sad some people work their butts off just to have LAZY idiots take things they have worked hard for. I believe their day is coming, maybe not here, but God sees everything you do.
My am happy that you weren't physically hurt in the process!!!!

katiescraftshop 02-25-2011 01:40 PM

That's terrible! Maybe if you tell the people at the fabric store they may give you a discount on replacement fabric.

NancyG 02-25-2011 01:40 PM

OMG!!!! I can't believe some people!! I am so sorry that happened to you. That really makes me MAD!!

JanTx 02-25-2011 01:44 PM

The quilt shop people do need to know so they can ask for better security or inform the police for drive bys or SOMETHING. If nothing else they need to warn their customers - or see them to the door or ... SOMETHING.

So sorry this happened to you. Ruined a beautiful day and a wonderful adventure.

I did let the fabric store know what happened. Also called the police, they said they have had a few incidents in that area of town. People need to be warned, it is very dangerous out there. I'm thankful I'm fine,,, will be checking Craigs list and other places.

Izaquilter 02-25-2011 02:01 PM

Was she in the quilt shop at the same time you were? Maybe the shop owners could place a face on this. Definately let the shop know & I would call the police too. Wonder if she knew what she was getting & looking for something for a quick sale. Heroin is rampid around here & I know of at least 2 people with kids on it. It's terrible, terrible, terrible that they are on it because it's so addicting but they will do anything for a quick fix. Good luck finding it & so glad you weren't physically hurt.

sharoney 02-25-2011 02:02 PM

That is so awful. IMHO, there is nothing worse than a thief!

VaNella 02-25-2011 02:03 PM

Could there be any security cameras around? I hope the police will catch her.

cheryl rearick 02-25-2011 02:03 PM

I am so very very sorry this has happened to you. Especially after saving for jsut the right gift. :)

What a whacko!

luvstitches 02-25-2011 02:32 PM

I'm most sure she wasn't a quilter and was hoping to find something awesome for herself. I hope the receipt wasn't in the bag. I'm sorry this has happened to you.

emerald46 02-25-2011 02:52 PM

That is just awful!!

SherriB 02-25-2011 03:09 PM

Wow! People never cease to amaze me!!! It makes me sick to hear stories like this. I hope they can find her and get your fabric back.

Carron 02-25-2011 03:13 PM

That is a terrible thing to have happened to you. Go back into the store and look around, maybe that is how they restock their shelves.

Mimito2 02-25-2011 03:24 PM

Was there a bank near where it happened? If so there should be security tapes of it. Even where I live out in the country we have a small country store that was just bought by some immigrants and the first night someone threw blocks thru all the windows. Now my driveway and barn are always on tape because of their security system.

thequilteddove 02-25-2011 03:32 PM

freak'n aye! so sorry this happened to you :( takes BIG ones to pull a stunt like that! (or maybe someone on drugs or something!)

NCquilter 02-25-2011 03:36 PM

OMG! I can't believe that happened. I'm sorry that that lady stole your bag. **Hugs**

I am so sorry this happened. Sure glad she didn't hit you first before taking your bag!!!

DogHouseMom 02-25-2011 04:43 PM

MAJOR BUMMER!!! I can only imagine that if this happened to me I could only stand there stunned saying "ah, um, wha, huh?"

At least your OK.

tdgiffin 02-25-2011 04:49 PM

You all may think I'm crazy here but I cannot figure out why the economy would make people steal more (I know it's true)
only b/c most of us would rather be in the street than steal, no matter what.
Does anyone else feel this way? I suppose if you were starving you may steal food for yourself or your kids but the stuff most people take they don't need, like fabric, tv's, jewelry etc (unless it's for drug money), which of course is a whole other problem :(

I'm so sorry this happened to you. HUGS, Sue

fabric whisperer 02-25-2011 05:05 PM

wow, I am glad you were not harmed, even tho it hurts that you saved for just the right fabrics... karma will get that person in the end, what comes around goes around. Any luck with your grandson helping find it? I hope the receipt wasn't in the bag, it was probably a score-return-buy drugs thing. This world has gotten scary.
