I never did like electric blankets, now I have even more of a reason not to like them. Thank goodness the child was not hurt.

Yikes. Electric blankets have always scared me. I would rather sleep under two or three quilts.

Thank goodness the little boy wasn't hurt!!! Quilts can be repaired or replaced, but children can't! I don't own an electric blanket, got rid of them years ago, but now I live in FL. so don't need it anyway. A quilt in the winter is all I need!!! Thanks for the warning!!

I lost a great aunt & uncle to an electric blanket fire. I've not used one since. They are scary.

I have heard that the poly would ignite, but didn't know it would do it this way. I guess my decision not to use poly batting in my quilts was a good one.....

Electric blankets are a total nightmare and I have no idea why they are still being made. We have a woollen underblanket with quite a thick pile...it can be used winter and summer, and is washable, a much healthier option.

Glad the small person was ok...a timely reminder for all still using these blankets.

Heating pads in the bed is just as bad. Heating pads are suppose to be used on top of the body not underneath. No weight on them at all. The newer electric blankets just warm, they don't get hot and they have fail safe features. The one I have shuts off if any weight is detected on the blanket. If my cat lays on the blanket it will turn off. It was special ordered and the company was bought out and the blanket is no longer being made. I wish I had bought a spare. If you like an electric blanket get the best one or don't use one at all.

When I lived in Michigan I used an electric blanket but just to get the bed warm. Once the bed was warm, I shut off the blanket. I could keep the bed warm but not warm it up. I hated getting into a cold bed. By using it just long enough to warm up, I could use other blankets/quilts on top of it without worrying about fire.
