ALL THE PHONE NUMBERS IN YOUR PHONE are now on Facebook. No joke -go to the top right of the screen, click on Account, then click on Edit Friends, go left on the screen and click on Contacts. All phone numbers from your phone (FB friends or not) are published. Please repost this on your Status. <-- OMG!!! Such a violation!

auntpiggylpn 08-11-2011 07:31 AM

WOW

ptquilts 08-11-2011 07:33 AM

good thing I don't have a cell phone!!

shnnn 08-11-2011 07:35 AM

it is a feature on facebook mobile that you can disable.

bibliostone 08-11-2011 07:35 AM

Phonebook Contacts

Facebook Phonebook displays contacts you have imported from your phone, as well as your Facebook friends.

If you would like to remove your mobile contacts from Facebook, you need to disable the feature on your mobile phone and visit this page.

*****
This is the message that comes up on the right side of the page. The last two words of the message (this page) will take you to another page with some directions.

kathy 08-11-2011 07:35 AM

not if you don't facebook with your fone.

Susie Quilter 08-11-2011 07:35 AM

Thank you, thank you. I reposted this on Facebook and also done as you stated. I hope it works. It said that it may take time to remove the numbers. This is just crazy. Now I realize why some people dislike Facebook.

Susie Quilter 08-11-2011 07:37 AM

Sorry....not my wall but my contacts.

I don't facebook with my phone and there were numbers posted on my wall.

probably from your friends facebook acct.. if they have thiers listed and would be safe to say FB would add to yours if you freinded them..

donnajean 08-11-2011 07:40 AM

I just followed your directions & see no phone numbers. I did read that you can "disable" the feature.

shnnn 08-11-2011 07:40 AM

The numbers of you facebook friends are the numbers they have posted on their own profile. the others (if they are there) are contacts from your phone.
And the contacts page is not a public page - I could not pull up your facebook page and see the phone numbers of all your friends.

probably THIER fb acct..

That's my guess too! I have very little personal information on FB and I am only friends with a select group of people. None of my FB friends are people I have never met. That just opens you up for all kinds of trouble!!

jaciqltznok 08-11-2011 07:44 AM

this is something that only YOU did by using FB on your phone, but all of your contacts that you can see their #'s also did...this is NOT a violation from FB...just lack of reading the rules on the part of those who use their phones and a SOCIAL network...remember in this day of high tech gangsters, if you don't want the world to know your business...don't use your cell phone like a PA system!....

amyjo 08-11-2011 07:52 AM

Not all of my numbers made it there. A lot of numbers that are not in my phone are there so it must be something that they have put into their profile and it is transferred to your account when you become friends. It can be disabled thru your phone.

I don't fb on my phone (pics/words too small for these old eyes) but all of my fb friends avatar's show up when they call me. Also, I happened to look at my calendar and all of my fb friends birthdays are noted there. I did upload my Outlook contact list to my phone but I still don't know how I got linked to fb...

Susie Quilter 08-11-2011 08:22 AM

I have never used Facebook on my phone. I guess I'm still old fashioned and use the phone to talk and nothing else.

Correct! If you take the time to read FB options, you can adjust your privacy level to your comfort level. i use FB to keep up with my out-of state kids. The only people that see my FB are the people i allow to see it. If i don't REALLY know you-you aren't my "friend" .

Painiacs 08-11-2011 08:53 AM

Did u know for 2.95 u can go online and get all kinds of info on anyone thru thepolice dept? Sooo sad! No privacy!!

Right! I agree! I never listed any phone number on my FB and I don't use my cell for FB! That is just ridiculous!

actually it doesn't matter. i do not have an iphone or facebook with my phone and i still had all the numbers listed. i'd advise everyone to check it out and deactivate regardless.

bluteddi 08-11-2011 09:30 AM

this has been an ongoign "function" on FB.... If ppl have listed a phone # it shoes up.. I never lsited a phone nember and do not access it via my phone.... but it is wise to ck on setting freq as they love to change things around.. even if u have disabled certain functinos and setting, they are at liberty to " update" and enable things at will.....U must stay vigulant of ur security.

Learner747 08-11-2011 09:34 AM

I just found this out this morning. I don't have a cell phone. The ones they publish are those who use their phones to access facebook. I am quite upset.

shnnn 08-11-2011 09:42 AM

If you don't list you number on your facebook profile it doesn't show up on anyone's contact list, unless they have their phone contacts merged with facebook - in which case they have your number already and it only shows up on their list when they are logged in. My phone# is not on my profile, and even though I do use my phone to access facebook it is still not on facebook (I just checked it out on hubby's contact list)

Susie Quilter 08-11-2011 10:05 AM

It worked!!!!!

I just received the following message from Facebook:

As you requested, your imported contacts have been removed. Please note: if some of your friends choose to share their email or phone numbers with friends on Facebook, you'll still see their contact information in your phonebook.

This is not a violation. Facebook asks you if it can pull from your e-mail accout information. You have to agree to this. The ONLY phone numbers that show are the contacts that you have entered with phone numbers. I have nearly 80 friends, but only 12 phone numbers show up because I didn't enter them. It also says this on Facebook:

"Facebook Phonebook displays contacts you have imported from your phone, as well as your Facebook friends.

If you would like to remove your mobile contacts from Facebook, you need to disable the feature on your mobile phone and visit this page."

("this page" is highlighted and you can easily click and disable. This is called opting out. It is quick and easy. You agreed to this when you set up your account and there is an opt out function. THis is not any type of violation).

amyjo 08-11-2011 10:50 AM

I just got thru looking on Facebook and I DO NOT have a phone # listed and yet they have some of the numbers for relatives. Didn't get it from my phone so how else do they get this info?

shnnn 08-11-2011 11:17 AM

Your relatives probably listed the phone numbers on their profile

janallyn 08-11-2011 11:23 AM

checked my facebook account, and nothing, but i do not access it with my cell, and frankly rarely access it at all, that is just me, i only have an account because i was trying to help my ex find his adult son, that worked, but the only thing i get, and that is on the computer is from people who want to chat, i figure if they know me they can email me or call me, so i just decline and delete, strange world out there now
jan in palatka

TonnieLoree 08-11-2011 11:28 AM

Well, no they don't. I have protected my privacy by not giving that option to them. Nor are any of my relatives idiots enough the provide that info about me. Hell, I can't even find either of my daughters phone numbers there myself.

Stitchnripper 08-11-2011 12:55 PM

Why is it a problem if the phone number isn't unlisted?

ckcowl 08-11-2011 01:07 PM

they do not have a single phone number from my phone- i've not given facebook any information from my phone- so it has none-
if you protect yourself- you are protected-
if you put all your personal information out there- it's going to be public.
this is like people getting up set about the gps capabilities of your phone-
your phone content only goes where you send it---face book has no way to access your phone information unless you give it to them.

shnnn 08-11-2011 01:25 PM

I just hate the way every few days or weeks there is another panic about something on faceboook or myspace etc.... relax! be careful! and think twice before you post your address, phone number, etc anywhere public -- if you don't give facebook your information - they dont have your information to share with anyone

Lizzytish 08-11-2011 01:54 PM

I wanted to let people know this information just in case they didn't know that it was there. And they could do something about it if they felt the need to.

Have a fun night

I didn't mean you had done wrong by sharing the information. It was a good reminder to check it out. I just hate that there is such a tendancy to panic.
