Honey BooBoo

Has anyone seen this child who is frequently talked about on morning shows? She seems pretty annoying and how did she get to be a TV personality?

Lori S 01-01-2013 06:17 AM

I find her to be in the same category with Jerry Springer.... and really is there nothing better to put on TV?

paulswalia 01-01-2013 06:19 AM

It's pure voyeurism - like watching a train wreck. I don't mind laughing WITH someone, but laughing AT this young girl has made me change the channel.

Crqltr 01-01-2013 06:26 AM

I find it disrespectful in every way, shape, and form! I sure would not let my kids watch it and think it was funny!

LindaR 01-01-2013 07:12 AM

when did chubby and obnoxious become funny....maybe I'm just to old to appreciate

romanojg 01-01-2013 07:13 AM

What gets me is that shows like this are called reality TV; it sure isn't my reality and I can't see how they can exploit this child just to make money. She maybe enjoying it now but wait until she gets older and this is still being viewed by kids she goes to school with. "Reality" can bite you in the but if you aren't careful. The only show that I watch that is really Reality is The Biggest Loser. I used to be over weight and can relate to these people and their struggles that got them there. What they face; that is truely reality as far as I'm concerned. I don't watch this other stuff.

Tartan 01-01-2013 07:33 AM

I am sure her parents are laughing all the way to the bank. It is pure exploitation of a child and I hope her money is put in trust from her when is is an adult. Who is going to hire a child with no manner and etiquette? Opps what am I thinking....that is already a problem with young adults.

willferg 01-01-2013 08:02 AM

I think she is being exploited by her parents, and her parents are being exploited by tv producers. I hope they save all that money for therapy, because I don't think that child is going to deal very well when her 15 minutes of fame passes, no one cares about her anymore, and she grows up enough to realize she was just a joke to many people. Poor thing!

Abby'smom 01-01-2013 08:47 AM

Tuesday today is a HoneyBooBoo marathon on TLC -- info on the first episode says she was a toddler beauty pageant contestant -- I would rather watch Sister Wives, my new tv fascination -- previews remind me of the annoying home video shows, somewhat embarrassing to watch

lillybeck 01-01-2013 08:54 AM

I thinl this show teaches kids that it is alright to be disrespectful to your parents. After all it got her on TV. I am afraid that if any of my kids talked to me that way they may be missing a tooth or two. And yes they are all grown but know when I say enough it is enough.

luvstoquilt 01-01-2013 08:57 AM

I think her family should be arrested for child abuse!

leatheflea 01-01-2013 08:58 AM

She and her parents need a good ole fashion spanking! Horrible!

nativetexan 01-01-2013 08:59 AM

How is right!!!!! reality shows have never been an interest to me. mainly because they are t.v. shows, not real at all!

NanaCsews2 01-01-2013 09:08 AM

It is sad in every way imaginable. Entertainment for all the wrong reasons.

CindyA 01-01-2013 10:55 AM

I've never watched it and never will. Hundreds of channels on t.v. and so often there is nothing decent to watch. That is why I spend time watching old re-runs and HGTV.

Nanamoms 01-01-2013 12:21 PM

Yep, they laugh all the way to the bank! $100,000 an episode in first season; Heard it was $150,000 for 2nd season per episode. Hope they save some of it and then take etiquette lessons with some of it!!

For better viewing, Law & Order, SVU marathon on TNT...all new episodes with new cast. Of course, I miss Elliott!!

nygal 01-01-2013 12:26 PM

I have only seen her in advertising for her show. I cannot imagine wanting to watch it. The culture has sure changed in Amercia and not for the better.

StashJunkieJan 01-01-2013 12:34 PM

I couldn't agree more lillybeck. I've never watched the show, and for the life of me I can't figure out what makes it entertaining. I saw her and her mother on Leno a few months ago and it discusted me so much that I had to turn it off. That poor child is growing up with the wrong idea about how life really is. Unfortunately it's going to come back to kick her in the backside. However, after seeing her parents and how they act I'm not surprised. At the risk of sounding judgemental, they seem to be trailer trash as well.

Sandygirl 01-01-2013 01:35 PM

Thanks for the heads up! We love HBB. Gives me a break from the trash that is going on in Washington. Exploitive? Sure! No one is forcing them to do the show. There are plenty of other nasty shows that have been on the air for too long. I get the impression this family does love each other and have fun. My guilty pleasure. Sorry.....

Sandy

Vanuatu Jill 01-01-2013 02:00 PM

Have no intension of watching such drivel, it's an insult to my intelligence to think I would find her amusing!!

AuntieD 01-01-2013 02:42 PM

HBB is no better/worse than most other shows on tv. Those housewives/sisterwives/etc are of the same genre. These shows are inexpensive to make and probably very lucrative for the producers. So many channels are constant repeats that I became a member of netflix to get some shows I like to watch. I watched the show with the dance moms and changed the channel pretty fast. Glad I have a remote so I can channel surf til I find something to watch.

"The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America" Have you ever heard of this?
The HBB 'phenomenon' is just following a long pattern. Read the reviews on the link for thoughts to curl your toes.

My feelings exactly! Amazing that there are sooooo many people who find it entertaining that it stay on the air.

Greyhound Mom 01-01-2013 04:44 PM

Think you have to wonder what type of person finds the show entertaining!!!!!

As society dictates what is put on television.......

Chasing Hawk 01-01-2013 05:26 PM

She is just a chubby Kim Kardashian. Her whole family just turns my stomach. It's embarrassing to know people from other countries maybe watching this and thinking we are all like that. And her Mom should be slapped into next week for letting her drink that gawd awful concoction of Mountain Dew and Red Bull.

nativetexan 01-01-2013 05:31 PM

they say Society dictates, i think it's the people who sell their products in commercials that keep the shows on. Don't ask me which commercials because i don't watch those either. I watched a movie the other day i love and watch again when ever it comes on, called Enchanted April with Miranda Richardson and Joan Plowright. My friend in England hadn't heard of it and will now watch out for it. she also loves Downton Abbey, me too! better TV.

Sheila_H 01-01-2013 05:36 PM

I think it's cruel to do this to a child of any kind, at one point in time she was doing beauty pageants and then they basically make a mockery out of the region of that she comes from. I don't think they should allow anyone to make someone out to be a huge joke I think it's a cruel thing to do to anyone. If half of what they show on there is true I'm surprised that DHS is not involved, they have no plumbing with that many people in the home and a newborn as well, getting stuff out of dumpsters, I fail to see the humor in it and refuse to watch it.

I was just thinking the same thing when I caught the show today switching the channels.

btw, love, love, love your photo. Is that one of your squirrels?

Central Ohio Quilter 01-01-2013 06:31 PM

I had no idea what a HBB was until I saw her on the Barbara Walters show a couple weeks ago. I couldn't believe what a horrible child she is and how horrible the public fascination with her is. What could the parents be thinking?

Many years someone refered to TV as a vast wasteland. It still is! There is way too often nothing worth watching on TV.

No he is not. It's a picture my husband found on the internet. I call him Cool hand Luke. :)

NancyBelly 01-01-2013 08:38 PM

I've been a public school teacher for 28 years in a rural area and HBB's life is very much the way many of my students grow up. She was "discovered" during an episode of Toddlers and Tiaras when she participated in a pageant.

misspriss 01-01-2013 08:42 PM

She started out in the "baby pagents." I am sorry for her, it's her mother that is pushing her. It's a shame they don't let her be a child

Thanks for the link, Jan. I have forwarded it on to many of my friends and family with young children in school. I saw this in action when I taught high school 5 years ago when I retired. The schools today are not the schools most of us went to when we were young. I tell all my friends, family if they can afford it, either put their children in private school or home school them if at all possible. Several have taken my advice... Most people don't believe it...

quiltjoey 01-01-2013 09:42 PM

HBB TV show is disgusting to say the least. It is making the American people look like fools. And again maybe we are...

slk350 01-01-2013 10:12 PM

I had just recently heard of Honey Boo Boo and had no clue what or who she was. Happen to catch some show about a toddler beauty pageant tonight and she was in it. Doesn't seem like pageant material to me (my opinion) .The whole show looks like a bunch of red necks. And I don't like the other show Toddlers in Tiaras. All those cute little girls dressed like adults or hookers. Shame on them

slk350 01-01-2013 10:22 PM

My husband has mentioned "The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America" and he can't stand the government and what they are doing. If it's the same person , there is a video on You Tube or something talking about the book. Wasn't the book written by a elderly women, who really knows what's going on ?

Reality TV has been on for over a decade. It is cheap to produce and there are plenty of willing participants looking for their 15 minutes of fame. Its about viewership and ratings. The World IS watching us and always have. We as a society accepts this form of entertainment. Like it or not...but you don't have to watch it.

Think You Tube, Facebook, blogs, etc. lots of trash for the world to see. HBB is tame compared to violent and sexualized movies, soaps and TV dramas. HBB will Run its course.

She is precocious for sure and this show portrays a real slice of society that many on this board may not have experienced...esp in light of the "trailer trash" labels mentioned in this thread. Wow!

At least this family/ parental unit is married and the family seems to genuinely love each other and do things together tho their lifestyle may not agree with ours. They look like they are having fun.

The Kardashians are having a sleazier kind of "fun" . Kim is knocked up while still legally married to the football player she duped.. No, i don't watch their show. The pastors' kid, the unmarried Jessica Simpson, is touting the benefits of Weight Watchers while proudly announcing her second pregnancy in her commercial for WW. Hmmmm.

The world is crazy, I agree.
Sandy

sewnsewer2 01-02-2013 04:46 AM

I haven't seen the show, but have seen commericals for it. I think it's discusting and can harm her self esteem later on.
Reality shows such as this aren't worth the time and effort it takes to put them on air! IMHO

And we erase history. Or we allow it to be erased. Check out textbooks. Fox News for a more in depth view of the world.
