there are a few. but if I had to choose, I guess it swould be between all of the computerized gadgets ( phones, computers, ipods, on & on) and the tv shows we now have. eliminate those two.

psychonurse 10-19-2011 05:12 AM

Sundays were for church and visiting, family lunch together.

it would not be wringer washers. I did more than enough of that when i was still in jr high and high school. I had long hair and sometimes my hair got caught in the wringer.

I would like to live in a time when going to church on Sunday and a family dinner afterwards was to be looked forward to all week long.

bobbie1 10-19-2011 05:33 AM

Nightly News with Walte Cronkite. We had 1/2 hour and that was it! I personally can do without hours of rehashing the daily news as they are doing now.

Stores closed on Sunday!

sandpat 10-19-2011 05:35 AM

Automated customer service..... BE GONE!

plainpat 10-19-2011 05:41 AM

I agree & also, made in America would mean jobs for all.

Coming home from school and mom there with a home cooked meal plus dessert. Land lines with no answering machine.(Well my dad was the answering machine,Joe's bar! Many a guy hung up on that one.) After church on sunday having a large sit down meal with the family. We did more sharing face to face with family and friends. Camping during the summers with the thunder bucket and coleman lanterns. I cannot chose one there are so many fun/ good things/memories about the old days.

mommafank 10-19-2011 06:17 AM

Civility, Made in the USA, news that only told you the true facts and an old cookstove.

buddy'smom 10-19-2011 06:24 AM

WOW everyone reading all these post is like a walk down memory lane, can almost see myself back in time. This is a great topic for sure.

IdahoSandy 10-19-2011 06:31 AM

To the time when my grandmother was still alive so she could teach me quilting. She was the family quilter and also repaired quilts. Her favorite was Grandmothers flower garden.

I also hate the automated phone system. It's impossible to get through to a "live" person

I would love to go back to the slower pace of life. It seemed you had more time to just relax. Now everything is just so fast paced.

Connie M. 10-19-2011 06:55 AM

Wow! I have to agree with everyone. I would go back to all of that and give up NEARLY everything except...indoor plumbing and paper products. I loved the whole "canning, gardening, butter making, baking, and just being a wife & mom"

alwayslearning 10-19-2011 07:10 AM

I would like my mother's sewing machine WITH my mother and oldest sister to teach me to sew.

zennia 10-19-2011 07:12 AM

I would love to go back to a time where everyone wasnt so busy and had to be in several places at once. I would love to sit on my porch and visit with neighbors but they all work.

Hobbyhorse1027 10-19-2011 07:40 AM

Its easy to remember yesteryear with fond memories. But also try to recall how difficult and time consuming common tasks were. Some of our current advancements have enhanced the lives of many. Women no longer have to spend the entire day washing and drying laundry only to have it get rained on. I am no longer limited to the goods made in America but can acquire just about anything made woldwide and at cheaper prices. Some of the fabrics we use are not produced in America. If we don't like some of the advancements that have been made we can avoid using them and teach our children to do the same.

I've read allll the posts and have enjoyed that walk down memory lane. I certainly miss the simple things of life that we all shared back then. I'm sorry that none of my grandchildren will ever experinece the wonderful times that I did.

Jersey Gal 10-19-2011 08:02 AM

I would love to go back to a time where everyone was not to busy and found time on a weekly basis to visit with family, and friends. I'd also like to see more snail mail, than emails.

peggyf 10-19-2011 08:07 AM

I am going to the Paducah, KY quilt show in 2012. Any good places to eat near there, or sight seeing trips besides quilt related?

lillybeck 10-19-2011 08:12 AM

I would like to go back to the whole family sat down to meals together and would sit down together and watch a show ;on TV.

countrycottage 10-19-2011 09:13 AM

I totally agree. Did you know that Walmart will now be open every holiday except Christmas Day. Even open on Thanksgiving. And I suppose lots of folks will hurry there to shop too.

Oh for the days when families could spend holidays together.

I so agree, my Grandkids live the fast pace, phone, computers, and so on, they call me old, but they really don't have a clue as to what there missing out on.

jansquiltn 10-19-2011 09:50 AM

I agree made in America and no computers in the car.

jbj137 10-19-2011 10:32 AM

Actually, they really are about the same or a little bit lower. Figure it out. In 1956 hamburger meat was about 43 cents a pound and minimum wage was 65 cents an hour or a penny a minute. Now minimum wage is $6.50 an hour or about 10 cents a minute. To be the same price (or take the same amount of minutes to earn money to buy a pound), hamburger meat would be $4.30 a pound. In the 50's a 3 bedroom brick tract house cost about $22K. That would have been 11 years salary (2000 hrs a year at $1/hour). Today buying a house about the same size (most places) would be $143K (6.5 times $22K).

I agree with you. Remember when the whole family could sit down and enjoy a show. No more. The quality of TV has gone down the drain.

LenaBeena 10-19-2011 11:26 AM

I so agree with TV being nearly unwatchable now. I only view PBS.

When I got married, our first washer and dryer were rated to last 25 years -- now we are lucky to get 10 years out of them.

I would like it that children could play outside or ride their bikes all over the neighborhood safely without fear of being snatched.
