Do any of you own one of these? I've been looking at them for a while now, but can't decide. How do you like it and how does the different coffees taste? Thanks in advance for your opinion.

Abby's Mom 08-03-2011 05:02 AM

Love it, love it, love it! No more making a pot of coffee and wasting part of it. Just make exactly what you want, when you want it. It's expensive to buy, but I think you make it up with no waste.

Gatormom3 08-03-2011 05:05 AM

My daughter has had one for over two years and loves it! She drinks coffee and her husband drinks tea - works great for them.

MaineGirl76 08-03-2011 05:06 AM

That's what I was thinking, I'm so tired of wasting coffee when all I want is one fresh, hot cup!

gollytwo 08-03-2011 05:07 AM

I've had mine for a couple of years and love it.

However, the coffee pods are ridiculously expensive. I bought the use your own coffee attachment.
I also hit the largest button twice with each brewing - I like a large mug of coffee.

It is an expensive machine so I'd check around - I had a 20% coupon from my local kitchen supply shop.
I think Amazon has it a bit less expensive too.

Enjoy it!

wyoming_quilter 08-03-2011 05:08 AM

My best friend has one and she loves it. She keeps trying to get me to get one.

jean1941 08-03-2011 05:15 AM

My friend has one and the coffee is very strong he makes him a cup and them makes me a cup and it is just right but I do like real strong coffee

patty48 08-03-2011 05:16 AM

Would be without mine. Even took it in the trailer with me last week. Great to wake up with a fresh brew.

Joanne 08-03-2011 05:36 AM

I have one and we love it! Coffee, tea or just hot water for my own tea bag-it is great! You can buy My-K-Cup to use your own coffee if you cannot find Kcup coffee on sale. A good buy. Try QVC.

btiny36 08-03-2011 06:04 AM

love love it, I also got their little filter also, that way I can have flavored coffee when I want cause dear Fiance' doesn't like flavored coffee...You can buy all sots of coffee flavors by the lil cuppy things also.

nyelphaba 08-03-2011 06:09 AM

We have one and like it very much. The taste of the coffee is what you want it to be - there are many different blends sold everywhere. I still brew coffee every morning and use this in the day/evening when we want coffee but do not need an entire pot. It is used mostly by my son who is in post graduate school - he studies way into the night and drinks lots of coffee .

That's an idea! My best friend loves strong coffee, and her roommate doesn't...so....

ptquilts 08-03-2011 07:05 AM

whatever happened to a good old Melitta cone filter you can use for one cup? Seems like it would be cheaper coffee-wise.

ShowMama 08-03-2011 07:27 AM

My daughter and son-in-law have one and love it. They do use some of the flavored coffees so I guess they like them just fine.

clsurz 08-03-2011 07:37 AM

Have had one for over a year now and love it. Also great customer service if something goes wrong with it. Be surer to join club online to save, free shipping and earn points for purchases which can be redeemed.

Sheila_H 08-03-2011 07:59 AM

We have one we've had it now 2 years and I'd be lost without it. My husband travels a lot so I don't need to waste a pot of coffee anymore or tea. That's the best thing about it I can buy either a box of one flavor or I can just pick up singles to try out. Here we have various coffee's teas, hot cocoa in the winter and ours has the ice tea feature which is wonderful! I have boxes of sweet tea and sweet peach tea. I'd highly recommend it

greenini 08-03-2011 08:08 AM

We've used them in motel rooms and like the coffee a lot, but haven't gotten the machine yet. I suspect when our current expresso machine breaks for good we might pick one up...it's good to know you can use your own coffee in it.

jljack 08-03-2011 08:32 AM

My DD got one for Christmas, and uses it every day. They don't drink enough coffee at home to make a whole pot, so the single cup works great. I am saving up for one. Same situation...I'm the only coffee drinker, so don't make a whole pot.

ILuvBirdhouses56 08-03-2011 11:07 AM

I just got one for DD for college, I got a great price on it at JCPennys when they had a sale a few weeks ago. She has not tried it but I got it since it for coffee, tea and Hot chocolate

emerald46 08-03-2011 11:10 AM

Love it! Especially when we have company, folks can have their favorite coffee, tea, hot chocolate. I still make a big pot of Starbuck's Verona every morning...my most fav.

ptquilts 08-03-2011 11:34 AM

as far as I can figure the coffee costs about 8 times as much in K-cups as buying it the regular way.

carhop 08-03-2011 12:31 PM

My neighbor has one and she loves the coffee and I have had the tea and it was great

waladopa 08-03-2011 12:32 PM

I have one. It's out in the shed. I hate it because the coffee is way too strong for me.
I'll sell you mine.

Ann L 08-03-2011 12:49 PM

I have a small one for work and love it. I bought the solo filter and put my own coffee in it, much cheaper and tastes just as good, I think so anyway. I do love the Donut Shop coffee though so I treat myself every once in a while.

SherriB 08-03-2011 01:27 PM

We bought one last year and love it! It is the smaller one and works just great for us. Before we got it, we would waste a pot of coffee every day it seemed.

I got DH a re-usable filter from Amazon. The one that came with it wasn't very good. He makes regular and flavored coffee with it. I prefer Emeril's brand, I love strong coffee. I brew the small cup twice and get a perfect amount for my travel mug. DD loves vanilla so I keep it for her.

We are quite spoiled by it and would definitely buy another if something happened to this one.

NDQuilts 08-03-2011 01:51 PM

DH bought it for me as a gift and I love it. I am the only coffee/tea drinker so I make myself a cup more often because it is single serve. I purchase their Kcups and locally roasted beans that go into the filter thing. Great for small dinner parties, but use an urn when I have large gatherings.

vjengels 08-03-2011 01:54 PM

We have one at work; everyone raves about it. I did try a cup of coffee once from it, I have a 10 oz cup, ... should've made a 8 oz. it was weak tasting( or maybe I like mine strong..) My only real problem is I was told the cups aren't recycle-able. That's a big no-no. 30 women x 2-3 cups a day x 5 days... that's a lot of trash. If only we could talk everyone into using the re-useable inserts & buy ground coffee.. :)

FirstQuilt 08-03-2011 02:04 PM

I love my Keurig. Now I make coffee one cup at a time, and it never gets bitter sitting in the pot. I grind my own beans each morning--enough for 4 cups--and use the U-Fill-It cup that came with the machine until 4 cups of decafe are brewed. Then I switch to the K-Cups that I get 80 to the box from Costco.

And those are a pleasure to use.

I'm really stoked on the company. It's here in Vermont with publicly traded stock that's up over 300% this year. That will buy a lot of fabric! :-)

What was the brand name on the one you got on Amazon? Do you remember? I am using the one that came with the machine and it just seems like the flavor isn't coming all the way through.

pjaco 08-03-2011 02:08 PM

Thanks for recommending the starbucks verona, I've been wanting to try something new. I love good coffee.

get her the extra thingy that you can use your own coffee in it...this way, she won't break the bank with the expensive pods.

zyxquilts 08-03-2011 02:56 PM

My friend got one for her shop & loves it so much, that she got another for home! I'm not much of a coffee drinker, but it makes lovely hot chocolate too! The K cups are pricey, but we've found that Bed, Bath & Beyond seems to have the best selection/price - and they always have those coupons they send out for 20% off too! (Which don't really expire either. I've used a coupon that was 2 years old!)

Rntraveler 08-03-2011 03:30 PM

How about the one from Crusinart that has a holding talk and you can make different size cups? Comes with the extra basket so you can use your own coffee...anyone have one of these?

Maureen 08-03-2011 03:53 PM

Bought one, hated it, gave it away, Like electric perk. Never liked drip coffee

dogpursemaker 08-03-2011 04:03 PM

Does anyone have a Tassimo? When I was looking into these machines, I remember thinking I'd prefer the Tassimo, so I'd love to hear if anyone has compared?

Sheila_H 08-03-2011 04:08 PM

The K-Cups can get pricy but we shop around, Costco has good prices, and every so often Price Chopper or Target put them on sale. I subscribe to their website and get some of their specials where you buy 2 boxes and get one free or sometimes its free shipping, and you can mix and match whether you want tea or coffee. We've got the little filter for it too if you want your own special blend of coffee. Our machine comes with 3 different cup sizes, it will even make travel mug sizes, and ours also has the ice tea fuction which I've been wearing out with this heat!

Pam B 08-03-2011 05:14 PM

We have a Keurig and love it! The pods are pricey...but, it depends on how many people in your house are using it and how many cups are brewed each day. With just DH and me, I don't worry about the expense. And this way I can have my flavored coffee and he can have his regular flavor. I also like to use it for tea and hot chocolate (both of which he never drinks).

Blue's quilting mama 08-03-2011 05:15 PM

I have been using the Starbucks VIA instant coffee, which gives me a great cup of coffee, and costs about 75 cents a cup.... thought of buying the Keurig system, but this works for me, and I have one less appliance to line my countertop!

luckylindy333 08-03-2011 05:18 PM

If you just want to make one cup of coffee at a time, get a coffee press. It makes the best coffee. You put the grounds down in the bottom, put the lid on and let it sit for about five minutes. Then you push down the plunger, there is a filter screen that keeps out the grounds- voila, a perfect cup! I like organic coffee and like to grind my own beans one cup at a time- but we live close to Seattle, what can I say???

meemersmom 08-03-2011 11:12 PM

I really like mine. I took it to our Spring Quilt Retreat along w/ mixed coffees and teas, and it was the hit of the weekend. I don't spend a lot of money on the K-cups. I've worked it out so that I have a couple credit cards tied to my Penny's charge and their reward points thing sends me three $10 gift cards a month. I use them for coffee mostly. And, since the cards get paid off monthly, no interest applies. If you shop around, you can find other good deals on them. Walmart has the Folgers brand of k-cups, and there's always coupons in the paper for Folgers.
