was waiting for the punch line... sorry this wasn't one of your famous jokes

I'm sorry to hear that happened to you. We remodeled our hallway bathroom this fall. Dh did all, new tile in shower and floor, cabinets and counter top. Looks really nice. AND then he had to take off the toilet again because it didn't set right the first time. He places a rag in the pipe while it is off and forgot to take it out. He discovered (or remembered)this after several days when the sewer backed up. Mr. Rooter came out and fixed it, although never found the rag. A couple weeks later main sewer line backed up and carpet in basement now needs to be replaced. Mr. Rooter comes again. (Right before Thanksgiving) After lots of looking and insurance consulting carpet is to be installed on Monday. Friday before, main sewer line is backed up again. Although didn't flood this time because now DH runs to the basement with a flashlight to check drain everytime someone flushes. Cancel carpet installation, call different plumber this time! Do you see the cost of our remodel going up?:) Anyway, long story, carpet is now in, just before Christmas and week-end company. Still haven't found anything in that line but hoping for the best. DH no longer needs to exercise because still running to check the drain in basement several times a day! DH said from the beginning he hates to do plumbing. I'm not saying a word......

Well, it turned out not to be as bad as we thought! Still a pain in the butt though! With any luck at all, we'll have it going before the night is over!
We do have another bathroom but you miss one if you're used to it being there!!

The DIY is NEVER done when you own a home. It is always something and not always can you DIY it and then it gets costly.

Poor you! Glad it's turning out better than first thought. I will be going home to CA soon where the water pipes under the house have broken. This house is in commercial zoning and I was hoping to sell before I'd have to do much with it. The pipes were ok when I put it on the market, but of course nothing is moving! Usually they just demo houses for commercial buildings which is why I was not too interested in doing much with it. I need to be in NM with my family. oh well. Merry Christmas to all.

Hang in there, Ditter. Our main bathroom is finally done. It started out with just putting tile in the tub/shower area. We had a tub surround. Well, the surround was leaking and we had black mold on the wall boards. OK, replaced the boards and tiled...then wait for son to finish someone elses job and then he comes back to grout. We decided to tile the rest of the room, halfway up. Take off the old tile that I installed many years ago. I worked around the toilet, but son wasn't going to do that...takes off the toilet and breaks it ...I was going to McDonalds to pee for several days. It has been several months since we started it, and yesterday he came over and painted the area above the tub. We have been living with primer for 2 months.
Yes, I know that I could have done some of it myself...but, I PAID him to do the work. Don't hire a relative. :(

I know thats not funny AT ALL but............ This sounds like the way things are always happening around here, something so small (like the rag) causes a major disaster. It does make me smile just to know we're not the only ones. lol :)

I so sorry to hear of your potty issues. I shudder everytime we have a plumbing problem. My DH usually does more damage than he does good. However, he did replace our water heater a few weeks ago with no mishaps.

Thankfully my DH knows that plumbing is not his thing lol
