Had fried sardines in Portugal ... delicious .... they were not small ones. Like others here, I've enjoyed sardines on soda crackers since I was a kid..

Love sardines on saltine crackers. My youngest daughter would come home after a date, she would wake me up and want to share a can of sardines on crackers? Now, that's bonding!!

I love them too, lol, same way! Found some made by Chicken of the Sea, smoked, & they are pretty darn good! Just have them occasionally, when DH has his little can of Smokey Oysters ( which are yucky to me, lol!). Nice little lunch for the two of us, occasionally...

We also like the Herring in cream sauce, yummy!

JoanneS 04-01-2011 01:19 PM

My college roommate used to eat sardines as a snack, and I hated the smell! She passed in '07, and I'd give anything to have her back, even that smell!

kathome 04-01-2011 01:21 PM

Gag reflex here.

SundarKoyal 04-01-2011 01:24 PM

I love sardines and even anchovies...depending on what you use them for. A lot of anchovies are used to make fish sauce for cooking.. which i use often. Sardines, I love to eat the ones in Mustard or Tomato and eat them with Sticky Rice. YUM!

chickadeee55 04-01-2011 01:28 PM

Thanks everyone for your replys, interesting. Amazed at the memories that this smelly topic could bring up. (but they are good)

Marge L. 04-01-2011 02:21 PM

How could you while I'm eating? Uuuuuurrrrrrrpppppp

Nanjun 04-01-2011 02:29 PM

QuiltMania 04-01-2011 02:29 PM

No fish of any type shall pass these lips.

NCquilter 04-01-2011 02:36 PM

Never had them

3TreeFrog 04-01-2011 03:15 PM

I really really dislike sardines, I mean to the point of hate sardines, the odor makes me well, not well!

I LOVE sardines...on soft, white bread. Will try on saltines, though. Also love herring in wine sauce on saltines. Full of calcium, minerals and omega3. (Just don't look at the sardines and think pleasant thoughts, heh, heh) If you want creepy, how about those pickled pigs feet in the jar? (Yes, I like that, too) Won't eat snails or oysters, though!

I've never seen a sardine quilt...

jbj137 04-01-2011 03:48 PM

No anchovies.
But I love sardines with mustard.
I get the craving about once a year.

I wonder 04-01-2011 04:08 PM

Love sardines, but will pass on the anchovies!

IDquilter 04-01-2011 04:41 PM

Don't think I have ever eaten sardines but have used them for bait. When I was young my grandmother used to put salmon (or so I thought) on saltines, maybe it was sardines?
Anchovies are great in Caesar salad. My DH thinks I make the best spaghetti sauce, he doesn't know it has sardines in it and he never will. LOL

grandjan 04-01-2011 04:45 PM

Minority opinion here. I like sardines and anchovies both. Pretty universally disliked though. I get weird looks at the pizza parlor when I ask for anchovy pizza.

Debbie Ness 04-01-2011 04:54 PM

love the canned ones in oil................. been a long time though. Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Taughtby Grandma 04-01-2011 05:34 PM

DH loves them I don't.

noreeli 04-01-2011 05:58 PM

love em love em love em.... any way, any day... lol

Linda1 04-01-2011 06:10 PM

I can't stand them. My husband likes them once in a while.

dljennings 04-01-2011 06:13 PM

nothing ruins a pizza faster than dead minnows on it...

yuck!

sewnsewer2 04-01-2011 06:19 PM

YUM sardines! Don't like anchovies tho, too salty.

FranCFries 04-01-2011 06:19 PM

That's how I felt when I test drove a Smart Car!

CarrieAnne 04-01-2011 06:28 PM

Ive never had one before!

Sheila Elaine 04-01-2011 07:14 PM

When my Dad was still alive, we'd take a couple of tins of Sardines & Saltines with us to eat. If the fish weren't biting, we'd try a few Sardines to see if that worked.

Ditter43 04-01-2011 07:18 PM

Live ones make good bait!!

seems we either love 'em or hate 'em...I can't say either, but that's one mystery that shall remain ;-)

Patricia Ann 04-01-2011 08:26 PM

I love them

Dee 04-01-2011 08:56 PM

I love sardines. Mom told me they were my first finger food. Love them on crackers or on bread with onions. Alone with a bit of vingar.

Well, I love salty things and love seafood most of all. So, I will have to try them with the onions on crackers.
