My 1st wedding dress was my Sr. graduation dress, hurry up, let's get married at 17.(don't know what happened to it) marriage lasted 17 years. BUT 2nd time around, I wore a hand-me up. My daughter's husband, who had bought her dress(she was 18 at the time grrrrr) suggested that I wear her wedding dress if it fit. They shipped it to Houston from Ks. and it fit exactly. We were married in a ballroom, where we had meet taking dancing lessons. Celebrate 19 wonderful years this summer. YES, it is wonderful the 2nd time around!! Dress is now waiting for the Granddaughter!

Don't feel bad about not getting to wear your Mom's dress even though she saved it. I have been a bridal seamstress for 30+ years and 99 out of 100 girls do not want or wind up wearing their Mom's dress even if it fits.... it is out dated and the bride wants to wear HER dress not someone else. Don't feel bad at all.

I totally agree!!

I have made hankies for the bride to carry from her Mom's dress.

This is such a great thread. I love all the stories. They have really given me some ideas. I am thinking of making ring bearer pillows and hankies for my granddaughters' weddings out of my first one. Better than rotting in the closet :-)

I still have my beautiful wedding gown hanging in the closet.
I don't know if it will ever be worn again, but I can always hope. :)

Mine is still in the cedar chest since 1970. My daughter had her daughter's baptism gown made from hers - it is absolutely beautiful and what a wonderful idea.

We're talking 44 yrs & so many moves I have no idea what happened to it. I dragged it from place for awhile, so guess I decided someone else could give it a go. My weight goes up & down & been a long time since I was a size 12.
