The guild I belonged to gave out kits for nametags with our Guild logo: crossed canoes. Members could either embroider their name or write it out with permanent pen.
Another group I belonged to suggested we use printed fabric quilt labels, sandwiched and turned; then one member used her alphabet program on her sewing machine to embroider our names. We could cute them up with our own touches; buttons, ribbon, etc to customize them. Easy and cute! Oh, used a pin to attach to us!
Oh, and one time I attended a multi-day class and the organizers had embroibered our names on sturdy felt with a cute little flower garnish. That, too, we pinned on.

years ago I was n a guild. we had a rubber stamp on basic muslin.
I fancied mine up and embroidered over the stamped image.
I added a pin to the back. it came out cute with hand embroidery and yo yo's (super mini about 3/8")
