rag blanket surprise
I won a ragged out Panda blanket at a silent auction. Very cute and no I do not have a pattern. The surpise, however, is that it's made of black and white fleece. The edges are all snipped and of course they won't ravel since they are fleece, but it's still got loose floppy edges and works quite well that way.
I may make another rag butterfly and use fleece for both sides.

Our local Project Linus received some "raggedy" blankets made from fleece, and they were surprisingly very nice. I don't mean to put down fleece, I use it for backings all the time, but I never thought to use it for piecing, particularly in a rag quilt. Would love to see a picture of yours!

I've made fleece ragged blankets out of 6" squares for years now and someone called them woobbies. I have a waiting list and some times wish there were more hours in a day so everyone could get their "woobbie".

You absolutely can do this! No, I don't use batting with fleece backings. The fleece serves as both backing and batting. My favorite part is that batting has rules.....quilt no more than 6" apart, or something like that, but fleece has no rules! It will not shift or bunch or whatever batting does if you break the rules.....so you can quilt it as much or as little as you like. I love making tops and find finishing quilts tedious....so I usually just run a few lines of stitching in both directions (horizontally and vertically) to hold the top to the back, and stop there. My grandsons use their quilts a lot and they get washed a lot, and everything holds up just fine. Good Luck trying this! (PS. I baste top and fleece together with basting spray. Easy and fast.)

Thank You, teacherbailey. I can see at least one of these in my future. There are so many cute, cute, cute fleeces out there. I like the "no batting" part as I know that can make one very heavy. I've made a couple regular ones using the batting and then have sent them to Florida. The shipping has cost as much as the quilt....LOL!
