Yes, it is so sad when no one keeps those recipes. my granny made the best bread and rolls. One day I made her try and measure out the ingredients. Well back then it was a pinch, small handful, eyeball that. I have tried numerous times and to no avail. Well now her daughters want the recipe to make. I keep on trying. My dh had a grandmother who made awesome noodles. No recipe either. I keep trying that one as well.

When we had to move my Mom to a nursing home my younger sister felt there were many of Mom's things she was entitled to take. I didn't feel like making an issue of what she was taking, but a couple of things that I would have liked to have just are gone - Mom's recipe box was left sitting on the floor in her basement when the basement flooded - out it went. The Necchi sewing machine (c. 1955 or so) that I learned to sew on - given away when she had to move. Grrrrr.

My mother-in-law was my best friend and I will still cry missing her sometimes. My in-laws would spend Thanksgiving through New years with us and during that period of time I would have my DMIL write down recipes she made for us during their visit. It's been 20 years plus since she passed away, but I still like to sit down every once in awhile and go through these recipes just to look at her hand writing. Somehow doing this brings her back to me for a moment or two.

I agree that it is very sad that family members wouldn't want to keep that. Each recipe holds family memories. I am the only person in my family that lives in a different state and sometimes your memories is all you have.
