Remember catching fireflies? We loved that or catching tadpoles in the spring. A kid could be outside after dark and not be afraid.
And party lines.......I work a for a cell phone company and kids have their own phones by age 10. Parents wonder when they lost control........
And a spanking was the way kids were punished. Yes you could go over board but we knew our parents ment what they said. We weren't afraid to go to school because we knew our parents would know what we did before we got home and would be waiting for us.
I could go on and on.

Wow...I remember everything mentioned here! I guess my grandkids are right...I'm old!
The only thing I can add that I haven't seen mentioned are phones with a dial & phones without a dial. We had to push the little lever up and down a couple times to get the operators attention then told her which number (only 3 digits!) that we wanted. Just like living in Mayberry with Barney and Opie.
My friends parents (almost 90...) still have a rotary phone on their dining room wall. Their great grandkids don't know how to use it. lol.

At night when the station was going off they always played that poem "Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,...etc.. May not have got the words right, but hey it's been a long time...
