Removing odors

I would be careful about washing them, unless it were by hand. I would think the agitator and 70+ year old quilts would not get along well. They are stunning!

Those are such a great find! I hope some of these suggestions work for getting them to smelling fresher.

Whatever you do, don't wash them in a machine with an agitator. Maybe a front load machine on delicate cycle. I put my NEW king size comforter in the washer with an agitator and it tore it apart at the top. OMG I cried. It was one of those super heavy keep you warm during the winter comforter and now it was ruined. I repaired the damaged and hid it with my pillow. But I still knew it was there.

By the way, the quilts are beautiful.

yes, just soak them and spin out a couple of times. white vinegar in the water will help the odor.
