I too like the Clover seam rippers with the brown handles. I have had to use my seam rippers on denim when mending farmer work clothes. You need something sharp. I used to teach Family and Consumer Science classes and most of the time I would pick up 5 or 6 seam rippers when I was a Joanns and could use a coupon. Some of the students just did not money for supplies. I usually got the cheapies for them to use. Luckily they didn't have to rip much because the sewing was in the middle school level and they did pillowcases and a 9-patch pillow. They got to use the embroidery machine to embroidery something in the middle block.

I like the purple Clover (?) or maybe Dritz ergonomic rippers. You can use the large end rather like an eraser to pull little threads out of your fabric. I tried one of those electric razors I bought at a quilt show, but the blade dulled really fast and I couldn't find a replacement. I've also heard of people using single-edged razor blades to rip seams!
