Our church will come to your home for pic-up. They donate to the homeless shelters for people that are lucky enough to get a home. AmVets, American Legion, Moose, and others are happy to receive these items for the "out of luck" persons. I bet if you took them to a part of your city that are in need, and sit them on the corner, they would be gone very fast. I sometimes put mine in boxes on the curb side and mark "free." Gone in a flash. We have recycle trash pick up once a month also.

Our local St. Vincent De Paul has local pick up. Is there such a place near you that does the same?

Bless another quilter by listing it for free on Graig's list. Or if you do not want to deal with it donate it.

I would try my best to donate it. Someone will be so glad to get it. If they have to pay for something, it will be used.

Oh, yeah! The things disappear when you leave to go to lunch or after dark! It's too funny! But I'm always glad someone else can use these things.

I have actually put stuff out on a table next to the footpath and most of the old folk around here managed to sift through and take all of it. It was interesting to watch the different personalities from my room. Perhaps this method could work for you?

Depending on what it is. If it can go into the recycle bin, it will. Gone by the end of the day if it goes to the curb. I've even donated from the freezer. If DH and I don't eat it in a couple months I put it into a cooler and take it to soup kitchen or mission. The packages are always marked with the date I put it into the freezer. Had a big package of turkey legs and couple roasts that needed to be used up and knew we wouldn't in anytime soon. They couldn't have been happier. They were making soups and stews that week. Worked out fine. not going to mess with garage sale. Advertised a futon once. They came to get it and next thing I knew they (a couple) walked all the way through my house. My DH wasn't so dear with them. Our house is small but didn't have to go all the way through it. Never again. To the curb.

sell or give away (donate)... NEVER dump!!! (unless beyond saving) One quilter's discards can be another's treasures

I do this sometimes, too. I put an item or a box of items at the end of my driveway with a "free" sign. It's amazing what disappears. Sometimes the whole box vanishes. Fine by me.

what is the best way to get them gone?

I don't have enough gathered to put on a yard sale (or the facility/location or the desire or the energy) - the stuff isn't valuable enough to advertise - and taking them to donation sites is inconvenient - and it's still too good to just trash - and I've already tried to pawn the stuff off to other family members -

What do you do?
We have a local "Freecycle.com". You post a message saying what you have and they can pick up. They email you back and make arrangements. I've gotten rid of some things that way. I don't have to pack, load, or transport.
