My first car was a 1964 Fairlane 500 coupe, 289 Special. No seatbelts, no power steering or brakes, no AC and only AM radio. It was burgundy, like yours. I wish I'd kept it; it was a great little car!

I would love to have a smart car it is on my wish list.
We really checked them out and they have more leg room than our gmc suv. They are built with a crash cage so you are very safe in the passenger area. sort of like what they put in race cars. We was one that was hit by a sudan doing 60 mph and the back was bashed but the roll cage area was like new. the airbags went off and the driver didn't even get a scratch. That's what sold me on one. also they do good in snow . Our niece has one and she wouldn't give it up for anything. I tried to buy it off of her and she said no. Also if you are alone the passenger seat goes flat for lots of hauling room. they start at $15,000 and depending on the goodies you at go up from there. We fell in love with them when we were visiting Victoria B.C. kjym Kathy

billy, so glad to see your post. I hope that is a sign you're feeling better. That car reminds me of a car my Dad bought in 1950. It was just about that color too.

We looked into buying a smart car to just drive to and from work, but was surprised at how expensive the insurance was. That may have change now, but it was a deal breaker for us.

I think they would be good for around the neighborhood and errands, but I would not want to drive one on the freeway. I drive a red Miata, vanity tag reads: red runt. When I see one of the smart cars beside me the Miata looks bigger!

They are so cute but would really limit purchases at garage sles and malls.

My SIL has one also and there IS a lot of room in the back. They had to take it to bring home their TV because it wouldn't fit in the trunk of their Audi. LOL. She uses it for around the town errands. Sadly, here in Norway they area more expensive than I would like to pay.

I have owned a Smart car for 2 years and just love it. The first thing my husband check was how they are built. He has build mini-sprint race cars and said the Smart car is built like one, he was impressed. The second thing we checked was the safety rating, 5 star front and side. Our insurance agent was impressed also. I have enjoyed mine. No, it's not for everyone, but I love pulling into the pump to fill-up. It doesn't take very long!
