Default A smile can make all the difference

I was at Kohl's yesterday, and when I was ready to check out, one of the checkers wasn't busy. She looked at me and quietly said, "May I help you?" as I was approaching her. I gave her a big smile and asked how her day was going. She was so surprised she was speechless! Then she said, "Thank you for being so pleasant." It made me sad, thinking that people in service industries are surprised when people are polite to them...

Smile. It makes people wonder what you have been doing ! Smiles are cheap but give someone something to be thankful for. Hugs and SMILES!!!!!

Yup, alot of them seemed surprised when you take the time to greet them and talk to them. Even if I am in a rush, or a bad mood I always greet them. It's not their fault I am in a hurry or not the best of moods.

When they ask me how I am, I almost always ask them how they are. Sometimes I am distracted but 99.99% of the time I ask about them too. I always thank them when I leave. I always enjoy chit chatting with them. Some cashiers are not pleasant and don't want to talk..

At one time or another all my children have worked either in the fast food, restaurant or retail industry. Some of the stories they told about rudeness and dishonesty left me speechless. I had no idea how difficult dealing with the public could be. I try always to be pleasent, its amazing how often it ends up making my day because we end up having a nice interchange.

It's sad, what salespeople are expected to put up with, from rude customers. It's kinda fun to be behind a rude customer, in line. You can make horrified faces and say things, the cashier can't.

I find my smile must make me look like a salesperson. My family has quite a laugh when I stop to help yet another person who seems to think I work there. It happens in the Walmart, supermarket.....Does this happen to anyone else?

And the height of rudeness is people who can't put down their cell phones. They can't even be slightly sociable with the cashiers. Annoys me no end!!

I worked as a table server for a couple of friends who had a catering business. I worked several weddings and church dinners. After those experiences, I think that everyone should work at some time in the service business. It's amazing how different things look from the OTHER side of the service tray or counter!
