If you want to know for sure it's still in the laundry room, sprinkle either flour or baby powder around the washer / dryer and in the doorway.

Leave it alone and you'll be able to see if there are "trails" in the dust.

The only way to be sure it can't get out of the laundry room is to tape a very high piece of cardboard or such across the entry way. They can get through teeny spaces so you have to have it full sealed off to keep it from going into other areas.

If you have a cat or dog, they can corner it (if so inclined). They might strike and could tag you so don't anger it.

They are generally very docile and can be picked up and put outside without any harm to either of you. It probably isn't thrilled to be stuck inside either.

Good luck (some cultures would consider this very lucky)
Thank you... lots of good information... I will file it in my brain but hopefully will NEVER have to use it.

I would be out of the house. I can't take snakes.

BTW - I love your barn quilt.

I have the willies from reading all these :) My 5 cats and 2 dogs bring me all kinds of lizards, birds, bugs, moles, wharf rats and snakes! I hate snakes but have learned to get rid of them if I have to. Yesterday the cleaning lady found a huge broadhead skink and she bout lost it! Luckily she said it was the first she found in 4 years and she was a good sport about it. Usually the animals corner things so I know the varmits are there and I can get them out!!! Of course my fur babies try to help me capture live ones and it is quite the show to watch all of us running everywhere. What fun! There's never a dull moment here:)

A dear friend in Missouri has a snake living in her basement where the laundry room is. I can't remember what kind he is but he's not a poinsonous/harmful one. His name is Charlie. They seem to coexist well.

When I was little I would pick up the garter snakes for the boys in the neighborhood, they were chicken to do it. Now I hate snakes but I don't know why. I'm ok with most other creepy crawly things. I think I would be outside calling the SIL.

Dont know what kind it is but most snakes here in CT look for warm places.

A friend put 2 snakes from our farm in a bag to bring home to her garden but when she got home only 1 was in the bag. They tore apart the car hoping to find it but it came out on a sunny day ! Imagine having to drive that car before they found it!
