Definitely a scam. The scammer got my niece's address book through her FaceBook account. The family was "mugged and stranded" in Scotland -- NOT!

She bought it. DELETE is a good weapon. IT is a scam.

I read in today's paper that there is now something called "targeted phishing". What it means is that somehow the scammers get email adresses of people you know or names that you might recognize and then ask for money. This sounds exactly like that. The article said this group of scammers is in China. For what it's worth. Delete as fast as you can. They even sent things to grandparents using grandkids names.

Two of my DD's and a business person I know, had their older NOT USED email addresses hacked into. The one from the business person said," No Subject" in the email. I get things from her all the time, and I opened the link and got a trojan virus. It wanted me to download a virus cleaner for $79.00. I could not open anything or go on the internet, without the message coming up on my screen. When I got two of my two different DD's emails, I caught the "No Subject" and notified them right away. They went into their old emails and deleted everyone in their contacts. One of my daughter's it happened twice to her 2 different older accounts.

I have gotten this type of emails several times from people who are on my emails contacts. When I contacted the friends they say their email address had been hacked. This is also done on FaceBook. Best not to even open the email and DO NOT return the email. The perpetrator would then know that it is an active email. I even got one from a cousin who was actually in the hospital ICU!
