I just got a strange email to my regular address; from Harriet Carpanini. Saying they were on vacation and were mugged and need money to pay their hotel bills and such. Has anyone else gotten this? I don't know how she would have gotten my address.

SCAM! It is soo easy to get anyone's address or put a name with an address. Please question all snail mail or email requests.

I agree with the others, it's a scam, if you PM the Harriet on here I would bet she doesn't know anything about it. if it had really happened they would have contacted family and friends not people off the QB?

People can go to profiles and pick out names of people to scam to scam, please don't fall for it. The DA scammers know that quilters have big hearts, but we also have brains, this is a SCAM!

Looks as if someone has hacked Harriet's email, she needs to look into it. Happened to a guild member here and she had to clean up her computer, etc. Purplepassion, you should email or call her to let her know. I'm sure you know not to "reply" to that email or open any attachment assoc. with it.

Send a PM to Harriet - she probably will go "What the ---- " and then she will have to figure out where the problem is.

I got one from a member of this board - and she was stunned

I also got one from another friend of mine - and she was also stunned.

Yes, scam, and it may not have anything to do with Harriet or her account. Spammers can insert ANYthing they want in the FROM line - my work email address used to appear online in many places and spammers used it all the time to send their garbage - sometimes even to me. LOL

It happens, I've had people from out of state contact me and ask if I'll ship items I've listed on CL. Just get the money via Paypal first. :)

I know dozens of people who have gotten that e-mail. The "sender" is often different, but the goal of scamming your money is always the same.

I emailed her from here. No I didn't respond to it. I have been getting so many hard luck stories through my email from other countries. I'm not rich enough to help everyone out; but I am not going to be destitute either.
