Thanks for all the ideas. I now know they won't get the best of me this summer. My cats thank you also!

Run a chalk line where the ants are coming into your house...they don't like waling over chalk.

If I can find the dry mix my mom used to make I'll send it.

I have tried new Bounce dryer sheets. Lay the bowl on top. If the ants are on your counter make a spray bottle of 1 tablespoon (depending on size) of dish washing soap and water and spray them. This will not be toxic but blocks the ants breathing holes.

Buy a product called Amdro and sprinkle it around the outside of your house foundation. Or use big sidewalk chalk and draw a line. The ants won't cross the line. Don't know why just know it is true having done it myself

Wipe the area around the kats dish with windex. They don't like that either.

I use to feed a feral cat on my front porch and I always kept it's ceramic dishes in pie tins full of water. It solved our ant problem :)

I use Terro. It's worked well for me.

this won't kill ants but it will keep them out of the cat food. Spray a line/circle of waxy furniture polish where you thing the ants are coming in. I guess the wax keeps them from getting across the line.
