The quilt in my avatar is a scrappy made with classic Winnie the Pooh fabrics for my first grandchild. It is my first fully completed project (I had several UFOs). I did the top and appliqued bumblebees and a quote from the book in the border. The baby's other grandmother, grandfather and great-grandmother hand quilted it and all our names are on the label. It's a rather emotional project for our family. It had just been completed but I hadn't mailed it to my daughter yet (she lived 1000 miles away) when my daughter and her DH lost almost everything they owned in an apartment fire that burned out 12 families. DD was 32 weeks pregnant and they were homeless. We drove out and I wrapped her in the quilt, literally wrapping her with family love and the promise things would get better. There were lots of tears. Two weeks later she went into labor and my grandaughter arrived, six weeks early, weighing just under 5 lbs., but healthy. When she got out of NICU, the quilt was an anchor as they lived in a camper in someone's yard for several months while they searched for a new home.
I told DD it was to be loved and used, not set aside as an heirloom. Today Lily is 3 1/2 and she uses the quilt all the time. It is fading, but I wouldn't have it any other way. They now live just a few miles from us (and she has a little brother). It's great to have them close. Lily's great-grandmother passed away this spring and this was one of her final quilting projects. To me, this what quilting is all about, and if it connects generations, it's a special blessing.

It was a picture I had taken at a rock festival I went to while Kittie was playing. My friend got tickets as a graduation/birthday present and knew my favorite band, Kittie, was playing and had asked me to go. Second show I went to and seen them play. We got there, tried out the army simulator, and got out just in time to hear Kittie start playing. We missed half their set making our way to the 2nd stage and we couldn't get much closer than a hundred feet or so. I'm really short so I couldn't see over the crowd. Audra and the other guy she gave her third ticket to lifted me onto their shoulders so I could see. Managed to snap a couple pictures.

Mine is a picture of my new longarm machine that I just got in January of this year with the first quilt that I ever took a class for. I actually bought my Pfaff 2144 to take the class to learn how to do the Beyond the Color Purple quilt. I guess when I decide to do something I go all the way. Candlequilter is the name of my business because I make handcarved, hand dipped candles that remind me of quilting as well as my longarm quilting services.

This avatar picture really does connect to quilting. I snapped this photo when sitting at my sewing machine. This guy comes around every year and watches me sew. I have three pictures almost exactly the same each taken a year apart.
