My mom used to drink "Knox" gelatine for her nails every day :!: You buy it in the same place you get jello. try that but you have to stick with it :!: I would say at least 6wks to see a diff. 8-)

Calcium does the trick for my nails. I drink a big glass of milk every night and my nails are thick, strong and long. If I miss a couple of days they start breaking, and when they break it hurts.

I had soft thin nails for 70 years, tried several things to no avail. I read an article about nails saying to apply white iodine to nails for 10 days then once a week. The white iodine (from a pharmacy)sometimes called clear or decolorized iodine has worked for me. Just go by these directions. My nails are thicker, stronger and longer. It is wonderful to have nails I can use to pick things up now. Bottle cost $5.00 and has lasted well over a year and not near finished.

I agree with trying a specialized supplement first, although it may take a little time to see results. In the meantime, try Barielle products http://www.barielle.com/ or a hoof-builder product (for horses, but it works!)

I even had a dr. tells me once that I would never be able to have much of anything for nails because the exema on my hands was so bad that it ruined my nail beds.
I'd give the specialized vit. a try if I was You.

Well, Guess what.............I ran out of the special supplements..Then--within 3-4 days all the long nails starting breaking I didn't get to the store to get more pills so I ended up losing all the long nails and this time they all broke right down to the quick.
I think I will try the gelatin supplements this time. I think that they are cheaper.
They don't sell the Knox gelatin cheaply around here any more because it started being used for joints. The price sky-rocketed. It contains chondroiton/ glucosomiene [ sp ] which helps joints.

How much Calcium do you take. I have being taking one calicum a day for years. Sure hasn't helped my nails. As soon as they are about 1/8 inch past my finger tips they start to split.
