I took my dad to the mall the other day to buy some new shoes (he is 66).

We decided to grab a bite to eat at the food court. I noticed he was watching a teenager sitting next to him.
The teenager had spiked hair in all different colors -green, red, orange, and blue. My dad kept staring at her. The teenager kept looking and would find my dad staring every time . When the teenager had had enough, she sarcastically asked: "What's the matter old man, never done anything wild in your life?" Knowing my Dad, I quickly swallowed my food so that I would not choke on his response; I knew he would have a good one! In classic style he responded without batting an eyelid ....
"Got stoned once and had sex with a parrot. I was just wondering if you might be my kid."

Hahahahahaha! Still laughing out loud. Glad I had swallowed the water I was drinking. Have to bookmark this so I can tell my husband tomorrow- he's sleeping now.

Thank you for adding this- there is a whine factor of how unappreciated people are but in reality it is themselves who fail to appreciate others around them. Yes, appreciate others who often are unnoticed- the person who scubs the toilets, the one emptying the garbage, the one who stops and opens the door for a stranger and so on- we have diverted from the simple response of thankyou(name) or sir or mam and don't even notice they exist. We become so consumed with who we are, what we have achieved and what we have. We fail to acknowledge others unless they hold a degree or a position. One thing that really became poinent when I was a dental assistant was you never know a person by simply looking at them. I have met both hauty and humble and my heart was and remained touched by the stories they shared. I look at people and wonder what their story is. Did they have dreams, do they hurt, where have they been and so on. I am continually amazed at what God puts infront of me.

I totally agree. How blessed we all are to have each other to reach out to. How good it helps me feel when I can offer a good word or deed to someone who needs it. It helps me forget that maybe I was needing one too. Smiles and hugs to all.

Oooh, I wish I could give a great quick come-back like that. I think of what I should have said long after the moment is passed. I expect his response shut her up completely.

What am I missing??? From reading the posts on this board, I have come to the conclusion that quilters have the nicest and supportive husbands. Every post I have read is complimentary and helpful. I know I certainly have learned a lot. Coming to the board is the first thing I do in the am because I so enjoy it. So where are the negative posts because I haven't seen them. BTW, I thought Carping was a quilt technique that I missed.
