Just heard that Crescent City California had an 8 foot wave hit their harbor and damaged it. Took out a lot of boats.
This has been a good lesson for the U.S.....people thought the scientists knew it all and started going back to the beaches. They thought the wave would hit Crescent City around 7-8" and wouldn't be very high......

I find it so interesting that our news media focus on "fear" tactics. This earthquake and sunami have been devasting. Killing hundreds maybe thousands of people. However, the news media is only focusing on the Nuclear PLant. My husband is a retired Nuclear Engineer. There may be problems with this plant explosion but there will not be any deaths. These plants are closely monitored and there are solutions. Please, please, please don't let these nuclear uneducated media people scare you to death. Remember X-rays? Let us focus on the tragic deaths and missing people. Also, the survivors who are injured or who have lost loved ones. People that may NEVER be found. This is the tragedy. The Nuclear Plant is only one of the problems and it will NOT kill anyone.

We have family and friends in Japan. Fortunately they are all safe. They are in Tokyo which is about 200 miles away from the devastation. The earthquake was pretty big even in Tokyo and it's rather chaotic there with cell phones not working and public transportation at a standstill. Everyone in Sendai and surrounding areas are in my thoughts and prayers.

Mo. may not be the safest place to live with the New Madrid fault. I keep thinking one of these days it is going to start shifting. That is the one thing that could really affect my underground house--UGH hate to even think about it. Tornadoes, and storms don't bother me as I am pretty well protected from those, but now an earthquake is a different thing, and we are quite a ways from southeastern Mo. but I think we would still be affected if one hit.
I sure hope and pray it doesn't take place and feel so sorry for all the ones affected by the recent quakes and aftershocks.

We are the lucky ones. We live in Santa Cruz,Ca but all that happened here is the boat harbor really got hit hard.
the docks were torn out and about 100 boats ripped loose from the docks or hit by floating boats. and about 20 sunk.
I guess the larger fishing boats that are in the harbor headed out into the bay when they heard so they were alright. The leasure craft type were the ones that really got smashed.
I was scared my Son works for the Boardwalk right on the main beach. But the police had the area blocked and it boardwalk wasn't hit.
Cresent City up North wern't so lucky and alot of their fishing fleet were damaged. They were also hit after the Alaska earthquake in 1974.
Oh but the sights from Japan were beyond your thoughts. It looked on the news like something out of a horror movie.
So scary for all those people.
The news said that the water was going at 560 mph acrossed the pacific. Unbealeavable is all I can say.
All the hurting people are in our prayers .

My son called today and said he usually has a delivery for Cresent every Friday. He was listening to his Ipod and had not heard the news. He got fairly close to Cresent and they had the road closed and he found out why. He turned around and went back to the shop. When I found out he was moving to Ca. I told him if he was at the beach and saw the water going out big time, go the other way and in a hurry. We had a little laugh that he listened to his mom that day.
So hope that everyone is OK in all the places this has hit.
