We bought a Maytag Washer & Dryer .. and LOVE them !! Top loader is what we needed for the space we have for them, but it truly works !! But then also before my Kenmore broke down and was not able to get parts for (yes it was old!!LOL), I swore by it ! So either Kenmore or Maytag has my vote !

I agree with Coopah about not buying the first year model. We had loads of problems with a first year van that we bought. Do your research first.

LG has a good reputation these days. Old Maytags were wonderful machines. New Maytags not so much......

We have had our Maytag washer and dryer since 1972! Hope it lasts forever. That way I have more money for fabric!

We always buy Whirlpool. They tend to last a long time and they're not real expensive.

I have Sears front loader washer and dryer, 5 years now, no problems. Love the front loader,, cleans so much better than my top loader did...water saver too...

We all have our favorite brands, Maytag used to be at the top of the list but in 2005 they moved their manufacturing overseas and lost their reputation for reliability.
I bought a Kenmore High Efficiency top loader to save on water. Huge capacity, and it has been trouble free for 5 years. However, now I want to Retayne some fabric and you can't do that in these efficient automatic machines! I wish now I had a few more manual controls.

so many 'old name' companies are now under new owners - and they just don't seem to make the same quality of goods any longer - Sad

My Maytag washer is from 1990 or 1991 - and still runs well - but I wouldn't venture to say what the new models are like

I think there was a discussion about this topic a while back. You might try looking for that thread, too.
I bought a Maytag in 1994 because of the reputation and it wasn't even 6 months later that the water switch stuck and my husband came home from work before me to find a lake in our utility room and kitchen! Luckily, it was covered by insurance and Maytag covered our deductible. I bought a Kenmore after the Maytag gave up the ghost for good and am not sorry I did. When I had called Maytag to see about getting a repairman out to see what was wrong with the water switch, she said it would be about a week before he could get to me. I asked her about the commercial about the "lonely" Maytag repairman and why they couldn't get out the next day. I told her that was false advertising! She didn't answer me.
