    Welcome sign

Trying to get back into painting as well as keeping my quilting projects up. I just finished this one (need to varnish and add chain). But thought I would post here in case someone wanted to take a look. No pattern, just using various reference materials for subject matter, winging it.

Thanks to all of you who checked out my sign. I did change the bird somewhat to remove the piece of nesting material I had coming out of its beak. It looked odd to me when I saw the picture. May repost the pic later to show its final rendition.

I wish I could paint that well! My painting is limited to walls, and I am a two coat painter, one on the wall and one on me!

It looks so sweet. Reminds me I need to get back to my painting also. Seems like I go in stages.

That's funny, because I am not at all good with household painting, maybe because I try to use those little artist brushes and my husband almost has a heart attack!

Me, too. But I am really bad that if I stay away from something for any time, I forget how to do it (doesn't matter if it is binding a quilt or painting techniques). I have too many paints/brushes/books to forget about them. I want to make some more of the welcome signs to sell at the local animal shelters fund raising events. Keeps me involved with painting and maybe earn them a little money.

    Nice...just in time for spring!!!

You know what, that's a good point. If I am making these for the fund raising event, the next one is in fall. This might not be right for that one. Hmmm.....

Thanks for posting. I think a lot of us came to quilting from painting and I am glad to see someone revert to a former pleasure. I am getting up there in age and have not painted in years, but still have all my oils, watercolors and brushes. What am I thinking???

I use acrylics and have also had the tubes for several years. Some are no longer useable, but most have a surprisingly long shelf life. I actually sewed first, then started painting. Got back into sewing, pretty much exclusively. Both are time eaters, but I think sewing/quilting is more time intensive.

I enjoy both, and hope to for a long time.
