I have a friend who had a small house fire started by the dryer. They hadn't cleaned out the trap regularly.

Check out Flylady.com on the Internet. She has a special brush
that will clean out the fuzz, and tells how to get it out of the other area of the dryer that in ordinary use is never cleaned.

I was horrified when I got my son to clean out mine, and now it dries the stuff in half the time!!

I never knew about dryer sheets building up a film on the lint trap. Thanks for the info! Will wash mine tomorrow!

My dryer vent goes down into the crawl space and into the open very near the furnace pipes. If I did not have a lint trap in the dryer, all that lint would fly around the house, get everything covered in fine dust, collect in the furnace pipes which vent into the house, allergies would go haywire, catch in the dryer vent, clog it up, and start a fire. Alot of good reasons to have one.

I almost think I would rather have a fire than a rat crawling out of my dryer....
