I also started The Word by Wallace today--read it many years ago--I usually have about 6 books gong at once--just like WIPs in the sewing room!

Those who liked "The Book Thief" might be interested in "Those Who Save Us" by Jenna Blum. Our book club read both. The current choice is "Room" by Emma Donaghue, which I have not yet started, but my friend said it had some extremely suspenseful moments. For non-fiction, I liked "Zeitoun" by Dave Eggers about the experiences of a Syrian American in the aftermath of Katrina. I found "Icebound" by Jerri Nielsen extremely interesting. It's about the doctor who discovered she had breast cancer while she was serving as the only physician for a team of researchers in Antarctica. Be forwarned: the language is a bit raw. The story would have been fascinating even without the unfortunate circumstances of her health.

I just finished a spy thriller called The Skorpion Directive by David Stone. Currently reading Scent of the Missing by Susannah Charleson. It talks about the training of search and rescue dogs. I'm also in the middle of Pinhead and Patriots by Bill O'Reilly and Dewey's Nine Lives. I'm bouncing between the last three books right now. I hope to finish one or more this weekend.

For those who like Evanovich, you might also try Sue Grafton's books...A is for Alibi, etc. Her main character is a PI and is pretty quirky, too.

I did not particularly like the people they picked to play the characters in the first Stephanie Plum movie. I really wanted Danny Divito for Vinnie and maybe Phyliss Diller for Grandma. Oh well----

For those of you who really like crime or mystery who-done-it, one of the best I have ever read is The Last Child by John Hart. You will then want to read his others which are OK but definitely waiting on his next one.

Oh! I had not thought of Phyllis Diller for Grandma Mazure. Good choice! I kept thinking Estelle Getty which won't work or Shirley McLain.
