Oh my goodness..does that ever bring back the memories for me,too ! My parents were
from the south.. And i grew up on that same breakfast! Yum !

I was given sugar sandwich by grandma. I also loved a doorstep slice of bread with jam I can't stand today's oatcakes when they are hot. Love them cold with jam.

Even I did quote on being rather boring, I do remember butter and sugar sandwiches. Also, remember breaking up bread and putting it in a bowl with milk and topping it with sugar ( cereal ??). I still occasionally have some.
