Watch some of the beginner videos on YouTube, that'll help you feel more comfortable. I always like to see a thing being done, plus you can hit replay.

I got great advice when I started, and that was to start off small so you won't get discouraged or overwhelmed. You might want to begin with some "charm squares", they are pre-cut and color matched. You will learn to do a true 1/4 seam, how to press the seams correctly and get a finished product sooner. Placemats are a great beginner project. We all started at the same place you are at now!
Enjoy, and welcome to the board.

From Hendersonville NC in the Blue Ridge Mtns. where we luckily still have some great quilt shops !
