Hello from Georgia, and while I lived overseas for years I traveled many places in the UK. Had friends in various places so got to enjoy the out of the "tourist" thingy. I noticed the post within that mentioned having subscribed to the magazine.It is a good one. As to the question of what to start with, my I suggest simple square type blocks, or nine patch type baby quilts,or even just a small piece that can be used as a table top under a lamp,or table mat for tea time? The main thing is to focus on each step as a "growing thing", and not the mistakes or telling yourself "but it isn't good like others. Tell yourself something positive each time you cut,stitch or whatever.The main point is always to have fun and enjoy it, if not, then it is a job/chore.That is a big enemy that destroys..and then one gives up.

Hi Jitterbug from Georgia. Thanks for the advice, I was thinking of making a quilted cushion cover which I am hoping will
be an easy first project. I haven't subscribed to the magazine as yet I picked up a copy at the supermarket the other
day. I also picked up another a few days later called Pretty Patches that I thought was a bit easier to understand (being a newbie to this quilting) it gave you symbols for the capability of the project 1 cotton reel for an easy project and 5 cotton reels for an advanced project. I've been looking on Ebay and they sell the fat quarters and the fabric charm packs that might be a good idea to start with. I will let you know when I complete my first project....

Hi again BettyBumble...it is good to start with the easier projects so as not to get discouraged and feel you "can't" do it. That becomes an enemy in the mind to put up the boulder, when in reality you will be able to do it and much more.I have some links in my computer files that I will look for later and post them back to you that can help you search out patterns, methods to help. There are so many blogs and places on the internet that you wouldn't have to even subscribe to magazines. So, give me a little time and I will post back a few places for you to search. You will have to put that into your internet search engine, another one is quilting.about. com. Or simply type in word learn to quilt. You'll find many ways, projects. Still, search here on the forums...great place to learn.
