Hi from Ohio. I would think that you could post pictures ask what people think and then go from there.

visit 'Spoonflower' which is a fabric designing site, create a couple of your designs, you can save them for future 'runs' have a couple yards made and then visit shops, send swatches to fabric companies that carry the *style* of fabric you are designing and see how it is received. if you find people are not 'receptive' of your designs give the fabric to your mom to use. or, skip spoonflower- and just submit the designs to the fabric sites (I just think it would be more fun to see the designs actually on fabric. )

What ever you decide - good luck in your endeavor. And welcome to this great place. Hope to see more of your designs.

I just picked up the October/November 2013 issue of Quilter's Newsletter - there's an EXCELLENT article in there on designing fabric. I suggest you read it.

If you do the Spoonflower route, you could cut the fabric into fat quarters and visit some shops to see who would like to make something with one. See if there is an interest. The only drawback I can think of is that I've heard that Spoonflower is an expensive proposition.
It is a cute design.
