Hello! I just found this forum and am thrilled! I am picking up my quilting hoop after an absence of 16 years. I have a problem that I hope someone can help me with. I can't use a thimble on the finger under my hoop that receives the needle and it gets so sore. What can I do about this? TIA

I use two layers of nexcare flexible clear tape, you can get it at the drug store where the bandaids are. Make sure it is the flexible clear and not the cloth or paper. I have been using it since I started quilting over 25 years ago. I have to change it every so often but works really good and you can still feel the needle. You can get it at walgreens. I put it over and around my finger where the needle touches and it will wear through after a bit. Here is what it looks like. You can also get it in larger rolls without a dispenser, it is cheaper.

Welcome. I use the little self-adhesive leather or rubber thimbles. The leather are just a little round circle and the rubbery ones are clear ovals. They're available in most fabric stores and can be used over and over. There are also rubbery and leather full size thimbles available. If you buy a full size leather thimble don't get the ones at walmart because they're very stiff. The natural color ones (rather than white) are the most supple.
