I'm completely new to quilting. I've never even sewn anything with a machine before but have someone that will show me how to use it. I've always loved quilts and would like to try to get into making them for me, my kids, my family. They are the type of things that get handed down and i like that idea. Anyway I have a Brother VX1120 will I be able to quilt with this machine? I have The Complete Idiots Guide to Quilting coming in the mail any other suggestions for good quilting books?

Welcome aboard from Illinois!
Books?? All of them. Just kidding, sort of. Some of my first books were by Eleanor Burns. She has very simple, easy to follow instructions to make complicated looking quilts. I think you can quilt with about any machine that will sew a straight line, I'm not familiar with that one though. Soon you will be addicted and need the following items:

A back up machine in case something happens to the one you're using.
A supply of notions that include a rotary cutter, an array of scissors, a supply of needles and threads, rulers, etc.
A stash that could cover a small army
A room, floor or bldg to hold it all.

Enjoy your journey into the wonderful world of quilting addiction.
