It is a straight stitch sewing champ!! It's also light and portable and great for sewing classes, etc.

I hate to admit it but I think you've hit the nail on the head.

Hello and welcome from central Alabama.
FW are great to take with you, they have a great stitch, easy to maintain, and have a very happy hum when they sew.

There are so many Featherweights in use in classes, retreats around here that they are not a status symbol. just a great, lightweight, dependable, beautiful straight-stitch machine. you can maintain them yourself. very dependable. they do need regular oiling, but even that gets to be routine & 15 min. takes care of all if it.
and--I have to admit---they are so cute !!
the 1939 is a GOOD machine. I have a 1934 and just love to sew on that little lady.
