I've always stitched in the ditch, which I was told many years ago
will catch some of the threads in the sewing threads. We all know
how impossible it is to get loose from a hand sewing stitch that has
caught in one already there..so I try to lock them all together.

Then there is the 3 stitch one, where you go two stitches forwards
and one back, which winds up sewing the same line twice. I don't
think that it will come out for years and years, so go ahead and do
it. Then enjoy your quilt. I'll guarantee that as you gain experience,
you will find even better ways to do it..maybe.
