I've made several of these. The colors make the runner. Thanks for the pictorial, makes it much easier to understand(for those making it for the first time).

I made one yesterday and after comleteing it I decided it really needed batting. Last night I took it apart and today will redo it with very thin batting.

I have made several of these for quick gifts and always put batting in them as I like a little more fullnes or fluff. It's a really great pattern for beginners or those of us who need something quick. Thanks for sharing this tute with the pics.
