I like to number them for keeping rows in the correct order. I use a fine sharpie marker an number 1, 2, 3, etc. Then put pin 1 on the first block of the first row, 2 pin at the beginning of the 2nd row, etc. Keeps me from getting my rows mixed up and having to 'unsew'. I know you can buy them already numbered and some come with arrows but this is cheaper.

I have a box of them from there. The Loops and threads brand is made by one of the big brands but I don't recall which one (look on the back in the small print).

That said, the box I have has the dullest pins I've ever had in them. There were a couple with no attempt at all at a point. Check your pins out and make sure you return them within the window if they're not sharp. I lost the receipt and packaging ages ago so I never did attempt to take them back.
